Rainy Day Craft Activities for Preschoolers

Loki Morgan
It is raining and your preschooler is bouncing off the walls. Does this sound familiar? I have discovered some rainy day craft activities that are fun for both the adult and the preschooler. Try these easy rainy day crafts to entertain your preschooler when you cannot make it outside.

Rainy Day Craft Activity Number One: Model Magic

Crayola Model Magic has provided hours of fun and entertainment for my family. Both children and adults can get into this craft activity. Model Magic is a modeling material that is non-toxic and makes minimal mess. It comes in multiple colors and does not stick to your skin or crumble. Your creations will dry within 24 to 36 hours without a kiln. Save your dry creations for another rainy day and you can paint them.

You can also buy model magic kits which provide instructions for creating a variety of sculptures. This is a great option for children that are learning how to follow directions or parents that are not very creative.

Rainy Day Craft Activity Number Two: Sock Puppets

Create cute sock puppets with no sewing required. Find socks that your preschooler has outgrown or socks that are missing their pairs. Go on a scavenger hunt around the house to find items that can be used as decorations. Attach the found items to your sock puppet with tacky glue. You can also use markers to decorate the puppet. Not only is this a fun and easy craft for preschoolers, it provides hours of entertainment after everything has dried.

Rainy Day Craft Activity Number Three: Homemade Paper Plate Masks

Turn your paper plates into magical masks. The adult will need to cut eye holes out of the paper plate. After the eye holes are cut out of the paper plate the preschooler can go wild! Encourage your preschooler to let their creative juices flow by making wild and crazy masks. You can use markers, crayons, or you can glue found items onto the plate. Once the mask is decorated use tacky glue to affix a popsicle stick as a handle. If you don't have a popsicle stick you can use a straw, pencil, or anything around the house that would work as a handle. Once the masks are complete you can play pretend with your preschooler.

Rainy Day Craft Activity Number Four: Stickers

You can purchase blank Sticker Project Paper in the printer paper section of any office supply store. This is perfect for creating customer stickers with your preschooler. My son loves to create original art, peel it off and wear it around. You can also use it to create labels for your preschooler's toys. This is not only a fun craft idea it can help your preschooler practice writing.

Hey, this is so timely for me! It's been raining here in Boulder for about 3 days. And my three-year-old is getting restless! Thanks!
