Rainy Day Date Ideas on a Budget

Ten Inexpensive Dates to Do when It's Pouring

Michael Martin
Rainy day date ideas are welcome when doing anything outside is out of the question. You need some fun, inexpensive date ideas since you don't want to head to the mall, break out the credit card, and bust the budget.

1. Board games or card games. Good competitive spirit can pass the time while it's raining. You probably have some games stored somewhere in your house, so this activity requires zero money, which falls within the tightest of budgets.

2. Farmer's market. The farmer's market is sort of like a flea market of food. Anything from vegetables to candies to meats is usually available. Perhaps something can be taken home to cook for dinner.

3. Ice skating/roller skating. Check your area for indoor rinks. These activities are good exercise, especially when lethargy tends to set in when it rains. Skating is a relatively inexpensive rainy day date idea, especially when you want to get out for a few hours.

4. Bookstore. Bookstores are neat because many places offer coffee shops and lounge chairs and tables to leisurely read books, magazines or play on a laptop. You don't necessarily have to purchase anything, which fits squarely within a rigid budget.

5. Arcade. Get your game on by heading to an establishment that offers arcade games or pool. It's perfect for passing the time on a rainy day, and it's relatively inexpensive.

6. Watch an entire season of a television series. Maybe there's a particular television series you both haven't seen. Take a trip to the video store, get some popcorn, and roll the marathon.

7. Open houses. Check out homes for sale. The weekend is prominent for open houses where no appointment is required. No realtor is needed either. While you may not be in the market for a new place to live, open houses can be a source for decorating ideas.

8. Recipe. Break out those cook books your mom pawned off to you when you moved out. Find an interesting recipe and make it together. It may require a trip to the supermarket, just don't go shopping hungry.

9. Museum. Is there some history you'd like to learn more about? A museum is a perfect rainy day date idea. By and large, admission shouldn't be too expensive, and you can spend hours walking through the exhibits. Check your local area for what's available.

10. Drink a bottle of wine. Relaxing with a bottle of wine with a significant other has a hint of romanticism. A good bottle of wine doesn't have to be expensive either. Consider complementing with some cheese and crackers or your favorite hors d'oeuvre.
