Rainy Day Fun

Enjoying Rainy Day Activities with the Kids

You can definitely get cabin fever if you're not prepared for those rainy days. These are the times your parenting creativity really come into play. We have lots of different activities we like to do around here when it rains; however, one of our favorite activities is really just a simple one. My kids love to draw. We go through an enormous amount of paper because my kids actually like to staple a bunch of pages together and make a "novel" to color. When it rains outside, these "novels" are the perfect activity to keep them happy and be very creative at the same time. My younger son, who is still working on his spelling, will ask me to spell out the big words for him. It's so sweet to watch him draw his stick figures and then write a story about his picture. He's always very accurate with everyone's height, their hair color, and their eye color. Now, my older son, in addition to drawing, loves to build stuff with his Lego.

Although he can spend hours playing with the Lego, he has a hard time getting all the small pieces apart, so he can rebuild stuff. I would say every few minutes or so I hear a, "Mom come help me pull this apart." I have broken a nail or two in the process of pulling these Lego pieces apart. But it's totally worth it as my son can create incredible projects with his Lego. So while rainy days can seem to drag on and on, if you have activities to keep the kids busy, the time does seem to pass a little quicker.

I'm a work at home mom of 2 wonderful boys. I've worked for the past 7 years as a transcriptionist for a court reporter. I've always enjoyed writing, so that's what brought me here!  View profile
