While the weather may not always permit for fun outdoor activities such as baseball, soccer, tag, etc,. it's sometimes hard to find some fun activities to do with your children while keeping them fully entertained, & not bored. Did you ever hear the saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way"? If you have, the same can be applied to this scenario. If you are willing, & your children are willing, then you can have some great fun, as well as family bonding time all wrapped in one.
Think about when you are cooking dinner, what can you use from certain dinners as a project for your family, or how can the kids help you make dinner but yet have fun, & be creative. Many ideas come to mind, macaroni, wheter homemade or boxed, that can be a easy, fun crafting experience. With boxed macaroni, you can have the kids take the non boiled boxed macaroni, color it, paint it, added with some inexpensive yarn, or string, and they can make their own bracelets, or necklaces. Throw in a little glue, & glitter for some glam if desired. As for homemade macaroni, let the children help you mix the flour, & water in a bowl, maybe even roll the dough out, and cut it with a plastic knife in shapes, or grab some cokie cutters and let them make some fun shapes. They will get a real kick out of dinner then, when they are eating their silly shapes. Just be sure that an adult boils the dough, as it will prevent injury.
The next thing you can use in the kitchen can be something I would call Sunday sundae's . Designate Sunday to a fun sundae making day. Grab a half gallon of neapolitin, and you can't go wrong, a flavor for everyone. Throw in some chocolate chips, sprinkles, cherries, and whatever else you think your children will enjoy, & let them create their own custom sundaes.
Another fun kitchen idea can be fruit. Dice fruit in sections, and get a chocolate warmer, add some chocolate pieces, & let the children dip their favorite fruits in the chocolate placing each dipped piece on wax paper until turn to a solid hardened chocolate. Also adult supervised, as chocolate warmers can become hot.
Make some cookies. As previously discussed, let the children help mix the contents in the bowl, maybe even help roll the dough, throw in some cookie cutters, and sprinkles, and your kids will be creating their own special treat. You can even add some fun food coloring to the dough mixture, and make colorful treats with a personal touch.
Now that we discussed the kitchen fun, let's move on to some other fun ideas that are affordable, & fun, fun, fun.
Some other fun ideas can be found on a site called http://www.crayola.com . On this website, you can print coloring activity pages, masks, word finds, and other fun ideas. Its a great site for someone who enjoys using a little color to express themselves. It's a great non messy site that parents can use to being out the creative side of their child. It's amazing how much a pack of crayons, markers, and some glue can entertain, and bring out your childs creative side. I know myself as an adult, personally love to color with a nice, fresh box of Crayola crayons, the end result of my coloring experience is always refreshing. So if I feel this way after coloring a nice picture, imagine your child.
Another fun thing to do is grab something such as a leaf, a sheet of white paper, and some crayons, and have your children shade over the leaf making a creative masterpiece. Other objects can be used as well.
Popsicle sticks, can be colored, painted, glittered, etc. making such things as picture frames, little play house, etc. All you need is simple supplies such as popsicle sticks, markers, crayons, paint, glue, & glitter. You, & your child can add little embellishments such as foam stars, circles, etc,. to personalize your frames. This is a fun inexpensive craft, and it can make a great gift to someone special, & it shows your childs creative side.
Beads, and yarn, are a great plain, simple thing to make necklaces, & other fun jewelry pieces that make great holiday gifts for those close to you. Your children can even make them, save them, and have a summer stand to make some extra cash to save for that special DVD they really want mom & dad to buy for them.
Fabric excess, can be a great way to make something neat and interesting. Grab some seaming glue, and some beads, have the kids make pillows with some fabric that you have laying around, or found at a yard sale for a buck. Embellish them with some fun beads on the seams, and your child now has a fancy new, funky pillow for his/her bed. There's so mnany fun pattern's out there nowadays, you can grab a yard at Walmart, of your fave fabric, and go home on that rainy day, and help your child make a fun pillow without a needle, or hot seaming tape. Seaming, glue, scissors, beads, fabric, & a little tlc time together can make this a real fun project.
These are just some of the fun ideas that come to mind when I think of what we call, "Rainy Day" projects. Just remember that with a little love, any project can be fun. At the same time, while spending quality time with your children, you are actually helping them develop more mentally, & physically.
