RAINY DAY ROMANCE

Gary MacLean
Rainy days are the thing of man's imagination. If you are married to the one you love, a rainy day can be just the catalyst you need to get next to your partner to help stimulate that imagination once again.

I look forward to waking up and hearing the pitter patter of little raindrops on the window and on the roof. I especially like it on a weekend day. This is when we are both home, no obligations to work for anyone and the day is ours.

The very first romantic thing I would do on a rainy day is to sleep in. I never get to sleep in. Every day working has me up and out of the house by 5:30 AM. My wife gets to sleep in a little bit longer but she still needs to get up and get her day rolling as well. The rainy is just the impetus we need to take advantage of that warm cuddly bed.

I would sleep in until about 9:00 AM or so then roll over and snuggle my baby. I'd wrap my arm around her and nuzzle her neck until she stirred. Then we would start our day with the most romantic gift our God has given us. Nothing better than to be with the one you love while the rain keeps a steady cadence just outside the door.

Time for another little nap and some personal reminisces as we lay there with her head on my chest and my arm wrapped around her. Slowly we mumble ourselves back to sleep without a care in the world.

Finally we awake again still to the lilting sound of the rain as it accompanies us on our lazy arousal. I would run downstairs and put together a quick, but nice, breakfast of eggs and bacon, toast and jam and run it back up to my sweetheart. By now she would be awake, but just barely.

I would take her by the hand and lead her into our office and set her down in front of the computer. Then we would tune into our favorite on-line, role playing, game. Between bites we would fight a monster or chop some trees down or mine some coal. By the time we were done with breakfast we would have met another challenge and conquered it.

Now it's time to step out onto the porch just to make sure the rain is going to stick around. Check the mail, wave to the neighbors, sit in the glider for a minute or two, then get back up and go inside to a warm cozy living room. I'd turn on our big screen TV and search and search until I found just the perfect "Chick" flick.

I'd make sure it was a good one and that it had just started and then call my beautiful wife down to sit with me as we spend another couple hours of goofing off time in front of another piece of modern day electronics.

My wife would probably make a pot of coffee and bring in a couple of cups. Then she would curl up beside me and throw an afghan over us as we settled in for the duration. Thanks to the remote control we would not have to move until the movie is over.

Our kitty, of course, would have joined us by now. He would be curled up in my wife's legs on top of "his" afghan. Between the continuing rattle of rain softly dropping all around us and the heavy purring of one very contented kitty we would be lucky to make it through the entire movie.

Yes, rainy days are simple for us. We are people of little demand. Give us each other, a pot of coffee and a kitty and we are all set. Some may call this wasting away one of our few days here on earth. I call it simply loving my wife on one of the very few days I get the opportunity to do so.

Romance is where your heart is. If you feel romantic running the rapids or jumping out of a perfectly good airplane; then good for you. Me, I feel romantic when I am given the opportunity to hold and love the woman of my dreams. Those few convenient rainy days are the perfect time to do just that.
