Rainy Moments Lost in Thought

JoJo
The winds come and the rain falls shortly there after. It's soft pitter patter as it hits the roof often reminds an old man of his younger days when he would spend hours reading over books that he so carefully tended over in the local library. He was the type that was very meticulous when it came to cleaning and caring for books as he knew the value of them at an early age. Thinking back on those days also made him smile at the memories. One particular memory stood out in his mind.

He was arranging one particular row of books, the H's. He was on the third row when he jumped as he heard someone clearing their throat. "Oh! Excuse me!" he said as he saw a young woman no older than 18 standing there. He was so lost in arranging the books that he must have not heard her walk next to him. He smiled at her and moved out of the way so she could pass but she stood there with a soft smile on her face. His faced reddened slightly as he was not used to pretty women such as this talking to him or even smiling at him the way she was. "M mm may I help you with something?" he stuttered to get out. She smiled at him again and his face turned beat red from embarrassment. She let him stand there for a moment longer before she told him what it is that she wanted. A book about humming birds that were local to the region she had told him. He was so caught up that it took him a few moments to realize what she had said.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, you caught me off guard there!" he told the young woman. She just smiled at him again and he thought about the type of book she was wanting. It just so happened that it was the exact book he had in his hand that he was moving around on the shelf.

A bolt of lightening brought him out of his thoughts of the past and a rustling sound in the kitchen caught his attention. He turned to look at see what the noise was about, as his head turned, he noticed a book on the book shelf, for some reason it stood out at that particular moment. "Local Humming Birds" was the title of the book. It made the old man smile and look down at his left ring finger to where a gold band had wrapped his finger for a very long time. A soft voice from the kitchen spoke "The food is ready dear." She had the same smile then as she did now and it warmed the old man's heart to no end to be reminded of that same feeling he had never lost for her.
