Raising Funds for Our Children's Future

The Birmingham Education Foundation is not a new organization for most but a great reminder of what our community does for our students. It as achieved several outstanding accomplishments over the last few years. For example, it committed $30,000 last year to buy 30 whiteboards for the middle school and high schools in Birmingham. Many of Birmingham's educational opportunities have been available because of the generosity of the community of Birmingham and its commitment.

The Birmingham Educational Foundation also was able to fund a new grass roots program called "Sage on Stage," which started at Berkshire Middle School. The program was led by six social studies teachers who were given a grant to improve the learning experience of their students. A small example of the extraordinary techniques implemented included whiteboards that allowed teachers and students to add to the chalkboard-type boards.

Additionally, the whiteboards allowed the teachers to then print out the session for all students to keep. This type of educational experience is priceless to our students learning experience. For more information on what the Birmingham Education Foundation is doing, visit http://supportbef.org
