Just a few days ago, I read another article written by Sindy about Michael Richards a.k.a Kramer on the hit TV show: "Seinfeld" spewing racist comments at his comedy club routine.
I'm not going to hide it. I'm not going to sugar coat it. And I will talk about a sensitive issue. Some of has a racist problem. However, this goes deeper than white versus black, skin color versus skin color.
Because of 9/11, spies on anyone who resembles a Taliban profile. Because of profiles, assumes all Mexicans are poor farm workers. Because of this war, everyone across the world believes Americans are hypocritical torturists. Fingers: brown, white, black, red, yellow are all pointed at each other.
We live in a world of sexual gluttony where porn fixations are practically served at breakfast. We overwork ourselves to the point where our minds physically cannot think anymore and rage overflows to the nearest person. This world is filled with rapists and murderers getting away with their crimes every day. We enjoy blaming others, pointing out other people's faults but are too prideful to admit our own. Yes, these problems are in every race, every color and every background. No one is exempt from chaos and the sadness this world brings. Haven't you ever wondered why this is?
The day we end racism is when we stop pointing fingers at other people and point them at ourselves. More precisely, when we point them to our hearts and examine our own soul. When we agree that we are much, much more than a pigment color and more like intertwined souls apart of the same interconnected circle we call life. The rope that binds us together, we cannot see but we can feel it if we choose to.
We forgot what God commanded us to do and that is to love one another. We raise our voices so loud that it tunes out his voice; the voice of reason and peace. We think we know all the answers, all the solutions but we cannot even stop ourselves from dying. And when we forgot what God has commanded us, we'll pursue our own path that says "I wasn't offended, it's okay." Or "It was only a joke" not realizing that our Father in heaven is not laughing. Not realizing that wrong is wrong is wrong no matter how you feel, no matter what others are doing.
The problem will not go away on its own. Talking raises awareness. Raised awareness promotes action. Action produces change. This is the cycle which we must learn to follow. Not our own. Not by ignorance or tolerance. But by love. Just as Jesus loved.

Post a CommentVery insightful article. Pointing fingers rarely presents any call for change.
You have hit upon the very reason why people seem to tolerate actions like Michael Richards racist rant and Don Imus' ignorant comment. It would mean taking a good look at themselves and adjusting their behavior as well. There are many people who may admit they have said the same things at one time or another, but how many are willing to change their ways. Not many. That is why you get comments from people like "It's not for me to judge." They are, in essence, looking to excuse their own behavior.
Maybe I read through the article too fast. But I failed to see or even really understand the subtitle. Otherwise I like the subject matter and the broadness of your article(s). I heard something some years ago that kinda stuck along these lines and it went like this; when you're pointing at someone else, how many fingers on your very own divinely-created hand are pointing back at you.
