Raking in the Gold: How to Make 300 Gold an Hour in the Scarlet Monastery in World of Warcraft

The hallowed halls of the Scarlet Monastery have long been a destination for level 60 characters trying to raise money for their first epic mounts. Even after the release of World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King expansion, the Scarlet Monastery is still a destination for players seeking gold. To effectively work in the Scarlet Monastery you will need a high level character, a Death Knight or any level 60 or high DPS (damage per second) class character is fine. Your character should have enchanting at 285 skill and the ability to enchant fiery weapon to be able to use this method.

Method 1 - Minimalist

The minimalist method requires that you slip unnoticed past the trash mobs and only kill and loot the boss and the mobs surrounding them for disenchant materials and cloth. The minimalist method goes very fast and you will have your six resets in well under an hour and make approximately 300 gold.

Method 2 - Kill It All

The kill it all method requires you to pull, kill and loot every mob in the instance, which takes much longer than the minimalist method. Use this method if you have friends who need a run or who can help you loot. Method 2 has the potential to yield significantly more profit because you will find more cloth, disenchant materials, silver and rare items. The potential yield is 400 or more gold an hour.

Be prepared to kill a lot and very fast, what you will be doing is the armory and cathedral sections of the instance repeatedly, resetting six times an hour or doing 12 instance runs. You will get approximately 20 stacks of silk cloth, 12 small radiant shards and magic items that can be disenchanted, maybe even an occasional rare item. Some entry level epics such as the Staff of Jordan also have a small chance to drop in the Cathedral.

Epic drops are very rare, almost a statistical anomaly, and as such they are not included in the 300 gold per hour average total. It is good to choose a place to grind where there is a possibility of finding a decent epic item. The best thing about the Scarlet Monastery is that other players cannot interfere with you making gold. Getting revenge on the Scarlet Crusaders for all the misery they gave you when you were low level is fun. Snicker as you kill High Inquisitor Whitemane but don't finish her until she has a chance to resurrect Scarlet Commander Mograine or you will lose a blue item to disenchant.

When you are done, you should have at least 12 small radiant shards; enough to create 3 Enchant Weapon: Fiery Weapon scrolls worth 210 gold. With the release of Wrath of the Lich King, the inscription profession was introduced to World of Warcraft. Now enchanters can make more gold because they are able to sell item enhancement scrolls on the auction house.

Fiery Weapon scrolls sell for around 70 gold and there are always buyers for this item! Buyers love the convenience of getting their item enchants directly from the auction house, instead of having to beg for them in the trade channel. By selling scrolls you will make much more gold than you would otherwise. If you don't have a scribe to make weapon vellum for you, you still buy it cheaply off the auction house.

Each stack of 20 silk cloth can be sold for 3-5 gold each depending on your server, which after 6 resets of the cathedral and armory and you should have enough silk to net 50 gold at the auction house. Now include your other magic items, disenchant them and you can easily walk away with over 300 gold for an hour of farming. Even with Wrath of the Lich King, silk cloth still sells well because someone is always trying to level tailoring, has a new character that needs reputation or trying to raise the first aid skill.

If you have a trusted friend or guild mate with a low level character, bring them and let them pick up bind on equip items for you. People love to have their alternative characters run through instances and you can easily help your friends get to level 40 this way. By having your friend loot for you, you can kill much more efficiently kill and net more gold. Have fun and remember go easy on the High Inquisitor!
