Ralph Nader for President

On Meet the Press, February 28th 2008, Ralph Nader announced his run for Presidency. Though Nader may be common knowledge to some, many still are asking who Ralph Nader is and what are his reasons for entering the 2008 Presidential run?

Ralph Nader, the new addition to the 2008 presidential candidates is a lawyer, advocate, and an author. His books range in political, legal, consumer advocacy and opinion writings. Ralph Nader spent the 60's and 70's pioneering many consumer safety programs. The mandatory seat belt and shatterproof windshield are only two of his gifts to Americans.

Ralph Nader has been the founding father of many non profit groups in the United States. In 1972 he founded the Clean Water Action Project. In 1998 the Center of Justice and Democracy was founded by Nader. In 2001 he founded the Democracy Rising which holds annual rallies to empower and educate American citizens. As well, over 45 other non profits have been accredited to Ralph Nader.

Nader has run four previous times for the President of United States and has gained media attention for his direct and sometimes cut throat comments of other candidates. A member of the several different Parties, Nader is often credited for taking the 2000 election from Al Gore in Florida ("The Great Election Spoiler of 2000"). However, with over 3% of the popular vote and a strong following in Florida, Ralph Nader contends that it was the Democrats who took away their own win in 2000.

Ralph Naders' political and personal platforms call for a complete change in health care, bringing about a more Canadian approach to the U.S. medical system. Nader also believes in substantial cuts in military spending. A proponent of consumers and individuals he would also like to see high taxes swung over to the big businesses and corporations. He also endorses humanitarianism, a democratic government, consumer rights, and is an environmentalist. Ralph Nader is a well known opponent of the 'big business' effect on lower and middle class America. He has been called by colleagues and supporters 'Americas Robin Hood'. Nader is the first Arab American Presidential Candidate in U.S. history. Nader has run as a representative of both the Greene Party and Independent Party and has been endorsed by the Reform Party.

For the 2008 Presidential Election Nader has already named Matt Gonzalez as his running mate. Gonzalez himself has had minimal press, yet the media attention he has received hinders on amusement. Ralph Nader will be running as an Independent in 2008. He has already launched an exploratory websiteand a campaign committee. He has not wasted anytime criticizing both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. He calls his 2008 Presidential running mates panderers. Hillary Clinton is not a president and Barack Obama is simply a product of hype and mania, according to Naders' claims. He calls Obamas' Senate run "mediocre". Nader also calls Barack Obama "enthralled to the corporate powers" and adds Hillary Clinton into the same realm. Though most do not expect Ralph Nader to be a likely Presidential winner, many are wondering what "election spoiler" factor he can pull off in 2008. While Ralph Nader himself calls the very idea of being a spoiler "political bigotry".
