Ramadan is the month that we get closer to God. Muslims spend every night praying during the month of Ramadan in a prayer called Taraweh. This is a special prayer that is only during Ramadan. It occurs after the last mandatory prayer of the night. It is a time for us to ask God for forgiveness and gain the extra good deeds that we all need in this life.
Another great thing about Ramadan is it is a time to spend with family. Usually, most families do not have time to sit down and eat dinner together. During Ramadan most families make the time. In fact, we take turns eating over each others houses on a daily basis. This gives us a change to reunite with family and spend some quality time with one another. It also makes breaking the fast much more enjoyable.
Ramadan is a time that you reflect on your life and stay away from what is bad. In fact, we believe that the devil is locked away for this whole month, therefore giving us a chance to do good without any bad influences.
While most people look at Ramadan as a time that everyone is tired and hungry, I look at it as a whole month to catch up on my religion. It gives me a month to strengthen my faith and hold true to God. I also learn to be grateful for everything I have in this life, as many people do not have a choice when it comes to fasting. Ramadan is a beautiful month and is surely a month that purifies you both spiritually and physically.
