Ramblings on Wednesday from the Byrd Nest

For Those in Need

Pattie Byrd
Okay, my friends, I had decided to let the Monday Ramblings rest for a while, but some of you seem to be going through withdrawal. Since I think too highly of you to let you suffer, I offer the following:

Reading through the want ads the other day, I saw one needing a bar manager/floor manager. I assume they must need someone in charge picking up all the drunks lying all over the floor after a long night of drinking. I found this ad sort of funny since it's one of the more upscale eating establishments in our community. I guess smaller establishments just have to let them stay there.

There was another ad needing truck drivers and were willing to train a person in 15 days. Not to criticize something I know very little about, but I think I may have passed some of their graduates recently driving down the middle of the interstate.

My favorite ad, though, was listed as needing males 20-30 years old, diploma requirement, own a cell phone and automobile, a drug test required and no tattoos. The ad was for a carpet cleaning business. I just can hear the local uneducated tattooed people hollering discrimination now.

Well, I see that Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are not engaged again. It seems there was another lady in the picture for a while, so they've decided to not get married again. Times sure have changed. I can't be too hard on these young people, though. It must be difficult to be in the limelight all the time and mess up. When I was a teenager in love and broke up with my boyfriend, all I had to change was his picture. At least, there weren't diapers involved.

How much smaller can cell phones get? I had to get a new one the other day. The thing's so small, I had to file my fingernails down to a point so that when I push one button, I don't hit three instead. I know they make those larger phones that make people look like they're talking into one of those old style transistor radios we had when I was a kid, but I don't want that either. That's about as goofy as having that bug-looking thing hanging in your ear.

I saw piece in the paper where the Democrats were urging Mr. Rangel to resign. The quote in "The Commercial Appeal" read "President says ethics charges are 'very troubling'." Let's see, ethics in politics troubling? I can't imagine why we expect so much of these people we elect when they assure us they only have our best interest at heart. Maybe he needed four rent-stabilized apartments for a residence. Who knows when unexpected company may pop over.

According to "The Oxford Eagle" two men were arrested in Jackson, Mississippi for trying to sell wood blocks as laptop computers. The men had them wrapped in packaging to hide the fact that they weren't quite what they were supposed to be. The police arrested and charged the desperados with trademark infringement and sale of goods bearing counterfeit labels. Of course, no one had actually bought one of their wooden laptops. If someone had bought a computer sight unseen from these two, maybe they should be locked away for their own protection. The newspaper couldn't determine if these two had attorneys yet, so it might be a good time to give them a call if someone's has no law degree but likes calling himself an attorney. I'm sure they'd understand.

Loved your Bristol and Levi comment! :) And yes, Cell phones are getting way too small. Don't KNOW how these kids, none of whom can type, can actually send speed texts to each other! As for the fake computers, yes, anyone who buys something sight unseen deserves whatever happens!

Funny and thought-provoking as always. never thought I'd come to the defense of those tattooed folks, but I can't see what possible difference it would make if a person had tattooes or not, if they knew how to clean a carpet. I'm sure they wouldn't like the way I look either, and they're not judging me for it.

    Love these every single time.
