Rams Signing to Would Be Bad Move

Mark Paul
The St Louis Rams are a bad team right now, but there is promise. They have a good coach in Steve Spagnuolu and a top quarterback in rookie Sam Bradford. The Rams have been bad for a long time, but it seems some of the right parts are finally coming together. So why would they consider signing Terrell Owens? There can be only one reason, and that's to sell tickets.

The Rams have need at wide receiver, and while not the TO of his past, Owens is still a formidable receiver. But he's a plague. Owens has talked himself out of San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Dallas. He has thrown his quarterbacks under the bus at each stop, and those quarterbacks were Prow Bowlers in Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, and Tony Romo. Owens was largely quiet in Buffalo last year, but that was a team that few people outside of upper New York were following. What will TO have to say about Sam Bradford and his inevitable rookie struggles?

The Rams have some promise, but they aren't going anywhere this year. There is little to gain outside of ticket and jersey sales by them signing Owens. Money is the name of the game, which is why Buffalo brought in TO. But the Rams run the risk of damaging the growth of their quarterback and receivers. Spagnuolo was on the Eagles staff when Owens caused the rift that derailed the 2005 season. While it's understandable the Rams want to relevant, this isn't the way to go about it.
