Random Access Memory: The More the Merrier

Anonymous
The laptop's portability has ceased to be the only appeal laptop manufacturers make to potential computer buyers. Instead, new designs are made and performance is increasing dramatically. Because new laptops are quickly making others, even those released only a short time before the new ones, obsolete, keeping one's laptop up-to-date has become a difficult task. However, by upgrading your laptop memory you can keep your computer up to speed with others.

Smaller Space, Same RAM

Random Access Memory is a computer component that most computer users understand. RAM in a laptop differs from that in a computer in that it is more compact. However, it is still just as powerful and performs at the same speed. This means that it tends to be more expensive in comparison to Random Access Memory that is found in a desktop PC.

Utilization

Laptops, in addition to being more portable, are engineered to require a smaller amount of electricity than its bulkier counterparts. A unit of RAM serves the same function no matter what kind of computer it is in. The easiest way to describe this function is that it provides a short-term storage place where the CPU can access useful information. In increasing the size of your RAM, you leave room for more information to be stored. As a result, your CPU has more information more conveniently located for its use. In short, this makes your computer better.

Know When You Should Add More

You will most likely know when you need more RAM. The way you will know is that your computer will become inefficient or slow. In some cases, it might not even be able finish the job it's supposed to be doing. This can become very frustrating to the user. This issue often comes to the surface when you try to use up-to-date software. Increasing your RAM is the way to fix this problem and, for most people, these problems are what make them decide to add new RAM.

Too Much Is Never Enough: Keep On Adding

Too much Random Access Memory is never enough Random Access Memory. This statement is agreed upon by most people involved in the computer world. From consumers, to designers, to companies that sell computers, it is unanimously believed that RAM is always a welcome upgrade. Laptops in particular welcome additional RAM. Typically possessing 256 mb of Random Access Memory, laptops are beginning to use operating systems that require more RAM. It is important to find out how much RAM your computer has room for. To do so, look through the owner's manual. This way, you don't buy RAM that you can't use. Additional Random Access Memory is a good investment if you want your laptop to work more efficiently

Good article. After the computer uses all available RAM, it starts using space on the hard drive to store data. Disk access takes much longer than RAM access.
