Random Act of Kindness

Will Dyar
I remember what it was like to be a freshman. Around homecoming time all the freshman were terrified of the seniors thinking they would get taunted or made fun of. I also remember how scared I was of walking down senior hall on the Friday before homecoming. It was terrifying, I remember seeing the orange hallway with signs and decorations all over the place.

This year it was my turn to be a senior. I was the one who got to decorate the hallway and go to the assembly and sit in the senior section. However, I still remember what it was like to be a freshman. I knew how scared the entire freshman class was and I didn't want to be mean to them. Last Friday, I was in the main hall in front of senior hall. I heard two freshman saying that they didn't want to walk down that hall, and they were actually going to walk all around the school to get to class.

When I heard this, I realized this was me four years ago. I looked at the freshman and said, "come on, I know what its like, I'll walk down the hall with you guys, it'll be fine." They seemed a little nervous but they walked with me and when we got to the end I said, "There you go guys, have a good day." They replied by simply saying, "Thank you."

I do not know either of the kid's names, but I know I felt good helping them out. I knew what it was like to be in their position, and I figured if I helped, I could make them feel a little bit more comfortable in a brand new school. After that happened, I felt great the rest of the day knowing I really made an impact on someone's day and maybe on their high school experience.
