A Cub Scout Shows the True Meaning of Helping Others
A Random Act of Kindness by a 3rd Grader
I was proud to be able to turn in one of my Bear Cub Scouts for our cities "Random Act of Kindness Award." During the annual popcorn sales promotions he had won a $20.00 Wal-Mart gift card. When visiting the vet's office with his mom and cat he read a sign on the wall about a family with 4 sons that will not be able to have a Christmas this year. The vet was collecting donations for the family. He immediately donated his Wal-Mart gift card and after returning home he took his brand new Lincoln Logs birthday gift to his mom and asked to return to the vet to give it also. While telling me of this family he related that he could not imagine not having a Christmas.
He was indeed one of the "Random Acts of Kindness Award" recipients and was honored in front of many by the city mayor at the Christmas Parade celebration on Black Friday. In his full Cub Scout uniform he stated he'd gladly do it again. I was able to use this as a teaching tool for our entire Pack.
Teach Your Pack To Help Others By Giving
A great idea to help teach your Pack about charitable donations and helping others would be to conduct a Random Act of Kindness celebration for the monthly Pack meeting during December and encourage scouts and families to bring canned goods and new or gently used toys to be donated to charity. Ask a parent(s) to supply gift wrap, ribbons and scotch tape. Parents and leaders should assist the boys with wrapping and have the boys label the packages for a girl or boy. Parents/leaders should number the packages and write down the contents on a master sheet next to the corresponding number to be given to the charity of choice along with the packages.
Your Pack Committee Members could choose the charitable organization to benefit from this Random Act of Kindness or pick two or three and let the cub scouts vote on which to be working for. During the celebration encourage the boys to discuss random acts of kindness they have done or received throughout the previous week and what other things they might do to continue the generous spirit of giving throughout the New Year. This Random Acts of Kindness celebration could turn out to be your Packs most fun and educational Christmas Pack meeting yet.

This is such a heartwarming article!! And so very appropriate for this time of year. I hope many will use it as an example and introduce a Random Act of Kindness into their pack or into any type of organization or group. After all, a RAK can be done any time of year, not just at Christmas.
Please give my 5 points to this wonderful child! I think this is awesome for a child to have such a warm heart and a giving one, as well. It is great that the Scouts are teaching about giving, but I think it means even more when a child, or adult for that matter, gives without any provocation! That is what Christmas is about! A true life "Pay It Forward" story...give him a hug for me please!
