Randy and Paula White: Divorce at Without Walls International Church

Paula and Randy White Seek Divorce

Charisse Van Horn
I will probably step on a number of theological toes here. Today, Randy and Paula White, of Without Walls Ministries, announced that they are seeking a divorce. Now, I don't know who filed for the divorce, but I do know that the church is already beginning to voice their outcry that another mighty and powerful ministry has fallen.

First, let me say that I have no problem whatsoever with their divorce. I have seen God work in my own life through divorce, to bring me further into His Will and plan for my life. Of course, divorce isn't ideal for any marriage- however no one knows what really took place in the privacy of their home.

I could bring up links to numerous articles that assault Randy and Paula White's character and use it to discredit Without Walls International, or try to pinpoint those allegations as the reason for Randy and Paula White's divorce, but I won't.
All I will say, is that there were many signs that were exposed to the public that showed things weren't right. How far deep the ugliness lies under the surface, the public will never know. However, I don't believe that the fact that Randy and Paula White are getting divorced should affect any believer's walk with Christ at all.

I truly believe that sometimes God gives divorce as an answer to prayer. For example, when someone is beat down, abused, and all power has been placed in another person's hands, I believe that God may use divorce as an act of liberation and freedom. This may very well be the case with Randy and Paula White and their divorce.

1 Corinthians 7: 12-15

12To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

15But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. 16How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

My point is that just because someone says they are a believer, doesn't necessarily mean they are- this was stated by Jesus- If a man chooses to file for divorce from his wife, and says he is a Christian, is he really?

However, is a woman obligated to stay with him, because he says he is a Christian? Even if all signs say he isn't? Hitler said he was a Christian and I can assure you, he wasn't.

If an unbelieving spouse wants to leave, I say let him leave. If a spouse says he is a Christian, but files for divorce from his wife, I say he is unbelieving of the words Christ spoke, and let him leave!

However, the fact that Randy and Paula White are getting divorced shouldn't be basis for discrediting Christianity, the Charismatic movement, or even the prosperity gospel. I truly believe and hold all of these dear to my heart. Yes, I believe in prosperity. Have you ever been sick and poor? If you didn't like, it, then you believe in prosperity too! God wants all of his children to be blessed, prosperous, and healthy. However, when something isn't right, God will correct it. If a marriage is broken, He can repair it. If someone chooses to leave, that is their choice and one that they will have to live with. Yet, Randy and Paula White's divorce should not impact the daily walk of any believer, simply because you do not know what went on in their home, behind closed doors.

Even as much as Christians, we are expected to look unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, we do cherish what people do especially the gospel ministers. Divorce is contrary to what God ordained marriage for. How can you 'jump' into a marriage and 'jump out'. Ministers (pastors) we are indirectly condoning immorality by divorce. Be heavenly-minded. What shall he profit you get marrying to men? Divorce is immorality in disguise. Ask Juanita Bynum and Bishop Weeks, getting married to 'whom they love" immediately after their divorce.

Keep in mind that the devil would like to destroy every marriage if people would allow him. There are many excuses for divorce but only one reason for divorce. Jesus told the Jews that Moses allowed them to write a bill of divorcement because of the hardness of thier hearts. If you have a hard heart you must repent before destruction comes your way without remedy. If you hear God's voice today do not harden your heart in damdable unbelief.
