Randy Quaid Rants About "Hollywood Star Whackers"

Randy Quaid's allegations about "Hollywood star whackers" make Charlie Sheen sound kind of reasonable. Still, there could be a scream of a movie in all this.

Around Halloween last year, actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi fled to Canada. The couple claims that goons are out to kill them. California courts claim they vandalized a house and stiffed a hotel for a big bill. Last month, Canada said Randy Quaid could stay in the country pending a final decision on his residency request. His wife has already been granted Canadian citizenship because her father was born in Canada.

According to ABC News, Evi Quaid said, "Hollywood is murdering its movie stars. Randy has known eight close friends murdered in odd, strange manners. We feel that we're next." Otherwise, Randy and Evi Quaid have been pretty vague about the full eight names or why they think they are next. They have cited Heath Ledger who died from an accidental drug overdose in 2008; David Carradine whose death was attributed to auto-asphyxiation in 2010; and Chris Penn who died from heart disease in 2006. They also say the murderers are after money.

Sure, none of this makes much sense. Randy and Evi Quaid appear to be heavily in debt. Randy Quaid may not even qualify as much of a star anymore. He was nominated for an Oscar for his work with Jack Nicholson in "The Last Detail" back in 1973. However, in 2008, the Actor's Equity Association banned him for life for "physically and verbally abusing his fellow performers" in a production of "The Merry Wives of Windsor." It's also hard to suspect murder even in the cases the couple has named, especially Chris Penn who was diagnosed with progressive heart disease.

Still, putting logic aside for the sake of a good scandal, why would Hollywood murder its stars? Maybe it could be a scam sort of like "The Producers." A company takes out a lot of insurance and then bumps off the stars to collect. How about a dead pool? Pick the youngest and healthiest stars and get really good odds when they meet an early demise. Blaming it on stalkers probably won't go anywhere. If they prefer delusional relationships to real ones, it's hard to see how they're ever going to be able to form a gang with each other. Plus, they might hire imaginary hit men. Actually, maybe Hollywood is just whacking stars in desperation to change the subject from Charlie Sheen.
