Ranking the Top 5 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks for 2007

Big Daddy H.G.
This will be the first in a series of articles ranking the top fantasy football players for the upcoming season. Training camp will be started soon so there is no time like the present to get prepared for your fantasy football draft. We will start with the most glamorous position in the game, the QB. While other positions like running back and wide receiver depend on play calling to determine how many touches they get in a game, the QB has his high priced hands on the ball every single offensive snap. As the old saying goes, "That's why they get the big bucks". It depends on your league scoring system how important the QB position is to your fantasy roster. Typically the QB is the highest individual point scorer on your team. So it is very important that you draft wisely. Your QB can't win your league alone, but he sure can lose it for you.

We will now give you our "expert" opinion on which QBs' will be the ones you want to target on draft day and why. And away we go....

1. Peyton Manning

Manning is the clear cut choice as the top QB in the league. He is coming off his first Super Bowl win. This after years of famous failures in the playoffs, it was debated far and wide about Peyton's ability to win the big game. Well he now has that huge monkey off his back. He has never failed to put up monster stats year after year. He is in the prime of his career and shows no signs of slowing down. He still has future Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison and stud Reggie Wayne to throw to. He also has a good pass catcher Joseph Addai out of the backfield. The Colts still have one of the best offensive lines in football. He will no doubt be the first QB taken in almost every fantasy league, as well he should be. He has never missed a game in his career. He is as close to a sure thing as you can get in fantasy football.

2. Carson Palmer

The Bengal signal caller is almost 2 years removed from his knee injury so his health should not be a question. He really came on at the end of last season to show he is ready to take his place as one of the best in the game. Like Manning he is surrounded by fantastic toys to play with in the passing game. Chad Johnson is one of if not the best wide receiver in the league. If you don't believe it just ask him. On the other side of the field is the very underrated T.J. Houshmanilla (championship!!). He has an offense built for speed and he knows how to put the pedal to the floor. He is also one of the few Bengals to stay out of trouble with the law so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

3. Tom Brady

Brady is coming off somewhat of a down year. Having said that he still threw for over 3500 yards and 24 touchdowns. We should all be so lucky to have that kind of "down" year. Look for Brady to improve tremendously on those numbers. He did all that with a receiving corps that would have had trouble making the Washington Sentinels roster. This year he has about 34 new receivers to throw to. Not all at one time that would be illegal. The point is with the addition of Randy Moss and company, Brady should have as much fun choosing a favorite receiver as he does picking which supermodel to impregnate this week.

4. Drew Brees

The Saints QB is coming off his finest year as a pro. He threw for a league leading 4418 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was the sleeper pick of the year. There was no expectation of this as he was coming to a new team and just had major surgery to his throwing arm. This year is completely reverse as the Saints return most of their offense from last year. There is no way he will surpass last year's numbers due to the fact he is not sneaking up on anyone this year, but he should come close. If he does he will be a sure fire starter every week in your lineup. He does not get the publicity of some other high profile QBs' so you may be able to steal him late in your draft.

5. Marc Bulger

We think Bulger could be in for a monster year. He is coming off a year when put up career highs of 4301 yards and 24 touchdowns. There are now signs of him slowing down this year. He may in fact surpass those numbers. He still has fantastic wide receivers in Holt and Bruce. His running back Stephen Jackson is a good pass catcher as well. This offense is not on the level with the Rams of a few years ago "The Greatest Show on Turf". They are still capable of putting points up in bunches against anyone in the league. Bulger and Holt are in their prime and have a Manning/Harrison like connection. With the free agent signings of Drew Bennett and Randy McMichael look for Bulger to put up Warner like numbers this year. The Rams have a porous defense so they should be in more than a few shootouts, which is always a good thing for us fantasy geeks. We don't usually care who wins, as long as there are a lot of points on the board.
So there you have it folks, these are the best of the best when it comes to the current crop of NFL QBs'. You can't go wrong if you end up drafting any one of these fine young millionaires. Did I mention they make huge coin?
