Rant on Repetitive Radio (Poem)

Allana Calhoun

Reader excuse me while I rant and rave

About what I hear on the radio waves

Day after day of the same single station

I hear the same songs in mixed up repetition

Switch up channels but the genre is the same

Hearing the same songs, I begin to inflame

I cannot find the really great stations

The ones with very little reiteration

They've taken them away or changed them up

I say throw in the towel I'm giving up!

Too many stations play all the same songs

Too many in one genre is just plain wrong

Then the next most baffling thing of all

Is how the listeners themselves don't cry or squall

Are there not others who are just like me

Sick of hearing each song monotonously?

Alas I fear that I am alone in opinion

For the request lines seem to answer my question

Listeners call in and choose which songs to play

And they ask for songs that we'd hear anyway!

Oh how I wish I could grab the requesters

Slap on handcuffs and have them sequestered

You idiots I scream don't ask for the same

Don't you realize that's just totally lame?

Such a golden moment should not go to waste

Do not make your selections with such haste

Ask for something we've not heard in a while

Something older or with a different style

Such idiocy dooms me to be stuck in a quandary

Going round and round like a load of dirty laundry

Never to find a way out of the awful repetition

No matter what device, no matter what station.

Years ago, I could turn on the radio and leave it on for hours if I wanted. I can't do that anymore; there are too many songs and recording artists that would send me running to change the station.

My college radio station had a strict rule about rotation, and they couldn't even play two things from the same album within a certain timeframe. It was maddening if you wanted to hear a song again, but it really did work well.

End up playing music on the TV at times - never enough of the songs I love, too much of the ones I do not love, lol

This is why I listen to listener-supported Christian stations. No commercials, no repetitiveness - just music :) love it, cheers ;)
