Rape Accuser Pregnant

The woman that accused three Duke Lacrosse team members of rape back in March is pregnant.

The pregancy is almost 9 months after the alleged rape. The defense has asked for a paternity test, but says there is no way that the accuser got pregnant from the alleged rape.

News sources report that both the district attorney and the defense rejected any possibility that one of the accused is the father.

District Attorney Mike Nifong said Friday that the woman is due the first week of February. The judge in the case has ordered paternity testing.

This pregnancy is just one more chapter in a story that began unfolding back on March 13th when the woman, a student at a nearby college, was hired to dance at a party being thrown by the Duke Lacrosse team at the residence of one of the accused. The woman accused three team members of raping her in the bathroom. Collin Finnerty, 19, Reade Seligmann, 20 and former team Co-captain David Evans, 23, who resided in the home, were all arrested.

All three were later released on bail. The men have vehemently denied the charges from the very beginning.

The accuser is black and all three accused are white and from what some would call privileged backgrounds.

The accusations caused such a whirl wind of controversy that Duke University cancelled what could have been a championship season for the lacrosse team.

Since the charges several DNA test have been conducted. The initial test showed no match between the 27 year old accuser and the members of the lacrosse team. Further DNA results have shown no conclusive match to any of the accused.

Recently the District Attorney's office has come under fire for what the defense is calling an attempt to withhold evidence by not releasing the full panel of DNA test results.

According to CNN, Brian Meehan, lab director at DNA Security Inc., said he and Nifong agreed to include only DNA matches in the report on his testing results. Meehan states they he was not trying to withhold information but was only trying to make sure that private information did not go public.

The AP report that at Friday's hearing the defense ask that the trial, that might not start until next spring sometime be moved out of Durham County to prevent bias.

The defense has also asked that the photo lineup be barred from trial. They've called the lineup ''an incoherent mass of contradiction and error.''

A video on CNN.com shows the accused, although you cannot see her face, in the police station at which point she is showed pictures of the lacrosse players on a computer and is asked to identify them. The defense called the lineup bias stating that the lineup only consisted of duke lacrosse players wearing their uniforms.

The judge has scheduled a February 5th hearing date to listen to the defense's argument to move the case.

I think the case has been handled poorly from the beginning and I just hope that truth and justice prevail.

Any time someone is raped it is a bad thing, it is even worse when it involves more than one person.

Okay...this is sad. Because unless one of those boys are half elephant, there's no way she can be pregnant by one of them...and if she's saying so, then all her credibility is out the window. Great story though.
