RapeX: Anti-Rape Condom for Females

LaiLah Washington
HIV is one disease that is spreading much in Africa, unfortunately one of the reasons HIV has been spreading in some parts of Africa is because of the countless cases of rape. Many South African women and children are viciously raped by HIV infected persons, some women don't seek treatment or tell their partner for fear of being exiled from their family, furthermore spreading the HIV virus and letting rapists go unknown, . The invention of rape X "a female condom with a locking bear- trap type device inside", will protect women from getting raped and help identify the rapists, effectively decreasing the spread of HIV and imprisoning and or punishing rapists...

How Does The RapeX Device Works;

(The woman inserts Rapex like she would a tampon.) Upon penetration, the male's penis gets hooked on shafts which then attach to the penis, causing a very undesirable pain. Once hooked onto the male's penis, the device can only be removed by surgery thus identifying the rapist. The device will only damage the male area if removal is delayed. While the man is occupied by the unbearable pain, the woman has time to get away.

Women insert and remove rapex with an applicator, pretty much like a tampon. Once inserted it lasts up until 24 hours. It is very comfortable and made of latex and plastic, it will not cause any damage to the woman. It can be worn in females as young as age 11, and is available in sizes, small, medium, and large. Rapists will not be able to detect if the woman is wearing Rapex because it is hidden behind the labia. Women must wear new Rapex daily to avoid creating an infection. It will protect women from certain STD's because no fluid will enter the woman.

Rapex is readily available in South Africa for 1 Rand (around 14 cents.)

Rapex was invented by South African Sonette Ehler, a former medical technician whose inspiration came from a rape victim who said, "if only I had teeth down there."

Rape x can be removed with an applicator and it will be removed if the woman is penetrated by the male counterpart in which it then attaches to the male's penis.

"According to police statistics, about 50,000 rapes are reported each year in South Africa, but experts say the real figures could be as high as 200,000 annually because acquaintance rapes and rapes of children usually are not reported" (Reuters, 8/31).

Controversies;

The woman has to be raped in order for it to work

The man may become so infuriated by the pain that he may batter the woman if not kill her

It will only entice rapists.

It will be used by upset women to punish their boyfriends, lovers or husbands

Itmay encourage rapists to sodomize women

The condom is medieval and barbaric

Sonette Ehler responds to certain criticism by replying;

"Surely the best defense of all would be for us to stand united against the violent abuse of our women and children, therefore I find such unconstructive criticism surprising."
