Rapper Da Brat Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

Rapper Da Brat has received three years in prison after striking a woman in the face and causing permanent damage while at a night club. Rapper Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris, will also have to do seven years of probation and 200 hours of community service after the Superior Court Judge Gail Flake made this ruling on Friday. Harris and the victim had gotten into an altercation before the assault took place according to the police that were on scene. The incident with Rapper Da Brat happened on Halloween night of 2007 at a nightclub, as reported by AJC.

I often wonder if celebrities like Da Brat often think about the kind of role model that they are being or if they even care. Da Brat had pleaded guilty to the assault charge which let everyone know that she meant to do it. I ask myself everyday if this is something that I want my kids to grow up knowing about and it isn't. There are times when I watch the news and see another famous celebrity getting into trouble with the law, and all I can do is wonder why they do it.

As a parent it is our job to safe guard our children and monitor what they watch and what they listen too but what happens when someone who seems to be a great role model like Brittany Spears takes a leap for the worse? Da Brat isn't someone that I listen too, but I do listen to other rappers that intrigue me through their songs. I use to listen to Brittany Spears when she first came onto the Hollywood scene but since she keeps getting into trouble, I find myself screaming every time her music comes on the radio.

Because I am not that familiar with Da Brat's music, I took it upon myself to do a search on her music and found a few. One of the more popular songs that Da Brat raps too is f_ckdafied which is definitely not something that you probably want your children listening to in the first place. Even if you choose to not let your children listen to rappers like Da Brat, it is still important for these artist to not make a scene about things and end up in prison.

Some people think that it is cool to be in prison and make a name for yourself, but what happens if you are a singer or rapper like Da Brat and when you get out, your voice wasn't as promising as what it was before you went in? I guess that celebrities and others don't think about these things before they do something as dumb as hitting someone with a bottle like Da Brat did.
