Dwight Arrington Myers, also known as rapper Heavy D, died Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office. He was 44. The emergency room staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center pronounced Myers dead "earlier this afternoon," L.A. Coroner Chief of Operations Craig Harvey said. Myers gained fame in the late 1980s as part of the rap group Heavy D & the Boyz. Driven by the success of the group's first single, "The Overweight Lover's In the House," Heavy D & the Boyz gained national exposure and became a fixture on the hip-hop scene. Later Myers would turn to acting. He was cast in bit parts in several sitcoms and movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The cause of death is yet to be determined but the coroner's office will begin an investigation.
