Rapture

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
To be filled with ecstasy

To express delight

Or to be carried away to another place

One word, many possibilities

distinct and separate

but somehow intertwined

rapture or no rapture

religious, spiritual, agnostic, or atheist,

Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or Buddhist

Whether you believe in a higher power

or a prophesy or not

Always remember that each day could very well be your last.

If you awaken tomorrow in a distant or foreign land

I sincerely hope you made your peace with your enemy

and offered your heart to the one you love.

I pray you kept your family and friends close

and smiled upon a stranger

There is always the chance that you may not see another dawn,

so remember those you are leaving behind

and the legacy, the love, the memories,

and the thoughts you have entrusted to them.

Changes occur frequently,

And it is always "the end of the world as we know it."

Have you accomplished all of your goals?

Have you tied up all of your loose ends?

Are you filled with joy and happiness?

Have you experienced moments of ecstasy?

Have you lived in a way that was pleasing to your creator?

Are you prepared to leave it all behind you?

Are you ready for a rapturous moment?

Or is it just another thing to fear?
