Rare Oddities in Professional Sporting Events

One in Million Shot

As if this premature basketball season couldn't get anymore stranger, professional basketball player Manu Ginobili did the unthinkable...kill a bat with one hand at the AT&T Center in San Antonio! This occurred during an NBA Halloween match between the Sacramento Kings and Ginobili's San Antonio Spurs. This oddity was a testament of what he is capable of doing on the court as and possibly caves too (no pun). Although this moment in basketball will never be forgotten, Ginobili's health after the incident will. Supposedly five percent of bats are known to carry the rabies disease and Spurs officials were worried that the bat Ginobili swatted may have been a carrier of the fatal disease. Luckily, Ginobili was not bitten after the strike (again, no pun intended), but touching it can be infectious since the disease can be transmitted through saliva. Fortunately, the Spurs organization decided to take safety measures into their own hands after health specialists told them the risks that are involved when a rabid animal comes in contact with a person. Manu will undergo rabies treatment by taking a little under a dozen shots (last pun, I promise) for the month of November.

Manu Ginobili would strongly be considered as the NBA's most underrated player. Born in Argentina, Ginobili has been the first Latino baller to showcase a wide array of unique moves that cannot be compared to players from both the present and past. He is widely seen as the Michael Jordan of Argentina and possibly all of South America due to the fact that he was the first International player to ever win an NBA Championship and an Olympic gold medal. Starting this season, Ginobili will be playing in his eighth year of Professional basketball. During those eight years in the NBA, Manu has been able to garner three world championship titles, one all-star game appearance, All-NBA Third Team award, and the Sixth Man of the Year Award. The year of 2009 was the year of recovery for Ginobili since he had recently endured a serious injury that nearly ended his career. He is now 100% recovered ready to help the Spurs retake their thrown by helping them win their fifth championship in eleven years.

News regarding Ginobili's altercation with bat was reported by both ESPN and REALGM Basketball.

Further information regarding Manu's stats and mini bio can be found at his official website.

I just wish these gifted athletes will think before they act. No wonder why so many athletes have short career or run into troubles with the law.
