Rat Bastard Root Beer: Not Your Grandma's Label, but a Good Root Beer Taste

You Can't Judge a Drink by Its Label

Rat Bastard Root Beer proves you can't judge a drink by its label.

I found the strange appearing brew at Pops in Arcadia, Oklahoma. see story

The non-contemporary labeled drink was one of 12 sodas I handpicked at the cola stop.

The label says "Tastes Like A Son Of A Bitch"

As you know a bitch is a female canine, therefore a son of a bitch would be a male canine, and I can't say that I know what one taste like.

But of Rat Bastard Root Beer tastes like one, then a male dog tastes a lot like classic root beer. Maybe a little sweeter.

The label when turned upside down, reads: "Its us against them."

Not sure if the consumer is considered us or them. Therefore I don't know who is supposed to be against who.

Another unusual statement found on the bottle reads: "Left in the bottle for the skeleteens/eat me foods in L.A. Calif. This really is weird."

I agree that this is weird marketing, but I have to say in a sea of over 500 colas at Pops, the bizarre label caught my eye and that is why I'm writing this and you are reading this.

Despite the weirdness, the drink itself is good. My coworker described it as tasty and frothy.

We popped the top of the strange labeled root beer and cautiously poured a sample.

Before taking a sip, the bottle cap had a message, it reads "We put the POP in Root Beer."

Well I'm not sure about pop but the root beer was comparable to other root beers.

The ingredients include a herbal blend of Jasmine, Dong Quai, Ginseng, Mad Dogweed and Kava Kava among others.

I decided to try and find more information on this drink with the unusual marketing practice.

I went to www.skeleteens.com, the site listed on the bottle, expecting to find pictures halloween like images drinking root beer.

Instead I found a site with links to information about colas.

So a Google search followed.

The search shows that many others have tasted and liked the product but most agree the label is out of this world.

I did find one review writer that was not impressed.

As for me, I like the drink and the label is a conservation piece.

Any event, the soda has a shot of being a part of my next handpicked 12 pick from Pops!

Sounds like it's more interesting to read the container than drink what's inside. ;-)

Sounds interesting! My husband is a huge root beer connoisseur, so I'll let him know about it. I'm sure he'd love to try it if we can find it sold here somewhere.

Someone has a sense of humor. I think the label does grab your attention and you'd buy it just as a conversation piece. Cool beans review.
