Ratatouille: A Delicious Treat for Everyone

A Rat Can Be a Cook

Rachel Heller
Everyone has dreams and everyone is passionate about something. In addition, sometimes dreams and passions are challenged due to the pressures of life or due to one's station in life. However, it is essential that dreams and passions are followed because by following dreams and passions you are being true to yourself. This message rings true in the animated film Ratatouille.

Ratatouille is the story about a rat named Remy. Remy lives in France and dreams of becoming a great French chef. However, everybody tries to talk Remy out of wanting to be chef because Remy is a rat. Nevertheless, Remy still dreams of becoming a chef. Due to a twist of fate, Remy is separated from his family and ends up in Paris in front of Gusteau's restaurant. Remy gets into the kitchen of the restaurant and helps Linguini, who is a garbage boy and prep cook fix the soup that Linguini was cooking. While fixing the soup Remy is discovered by Linguini and the rest of the chefs. Therefore, Linguini is ordered to get rid of Remy because no kitchen should have rats in it. But, Linguini doesn't get rid of Remy because he realizes that Remy can both cook and understand him. Therefore, they agree to cook together secretly at the restaurant.

Remy hides under Linguini's chef's hat in order to help him cook. Due to this fact, Linguini gets promoted to chef and gets recognition in the culinary world. In addition, Remy discovers that Linguini is Gusteau's son so Linguini gains control of the restaurant. One night after the dinner rush, Remy's brother, Emile finds Remy and Remy dad argues with Remy about wanting to be chef and hanging out with humans. In addition, Remy starts stealing food from the restaurant for his friends and family. Everything is going great until Linguini doesn't give Remy credit for helping him become a great French chef and until Linguini discovers that Remy is stealing food from his restaurant. Feeling hurt and betrayed Linguini tells Remy to leave the restaurant. After a short period of time Remy returns to the restaurant to help Linguini cook because Remy realizes that while he is a rat he is also a chef. Therefore, he must follow his dreams and cook. When Remy returns to the restaurant Linguini comes clean and tells the other chefs about Remy. Most of the chefs quit after hearing this news, except for Colette. In addition, Remy's family helps them cook for the food critic. I will not give anymore of the plot away because this movie is so good that I want movie lovers to discover the ending on their own.

Ratatouille is a wonderful film for the entire family. The animation is breathtaking because it makes the filmgoer realize why Remy is in love with Paris. The animation also makes the filmgoers fall in love with Paris. The friendship forged between Remy and Linguini is beautiful because they both learn the moral lesson of not judging a book by its cover. Their friendship is also great because the audience is rooting for both the underdog and the under rat to succeed in the cooking world against all odds. In addition, this film teaches us to always listen to your heart and follow your dreams. Also, it teaches adults to always believe in your child's dream and support them as they follow their dreams.

Ratatouille is a very creative because it places a rat in a rat-phobia profession and it lets the comedy come naturally. Plus, the voice talents in Ratatouille are great. I loved Patton Oswald as the voice of Remy because he showed that Remy loved food and had a passion for food. Lou Romano as the voice of Linguini makes a great friend for Remy. In addition, Brad Garrett as the voice of Auguste Gusteau is very funny. Other standout voices include Brian Dennehy as Remy's dad and Peter O'Toole as food critic, Anton Ego. Ratatouille will receive both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations and I will definitely buy Ratatouille on DVD when it comes out. Ratatouille is a delicious treat for everybody.

Ratatouille has won a critic's choice award and a Golden Globe. It has also been nominated for four Oscars. Yeah for Remy and company.

I couldn't agree more. Another winner from Pixar.

Following your dreams definitely is one of the lessons that Walt Disney tried to instill in young viewers. I was glad to see that the Pixar merger hasn't changed that.
