Debuting in 2002, Ratchet and Clank has been a main strong hold for Sony and the Playstation platforms. Six of the nine games have appeared on the Playstation 2. Two of which, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank, were ported from the PSP.
The success of the Ratchet and Clank games come at a time when the platforming genre has been declining in popularity. As more and more gamers moved on to shooting games, platforming games began to disappear. One of the few exceptions is the Ratchet and Clank series.
Due to its popularity, Sony was able to bring the series onto the Playstation 3 with Ratchet and Clank Future. Tools of Destruction was released in 2007 follow by the downloadable title, Quest for Booty, in 2008.
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is the latest title in the long-running series. The sequel will complete the saga in the Ratchet and Clank Future trilogy. The gameplay is expected to be more open in addition to adding several new time-traveling elements.
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time will be released this fall exclusively on the Playstation 3. Sony is giving out preorder bonuses to those who reserve the game early. Unlike the past, the preorder bonus for Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time will come in digital form. Instead of offering art books and/or figurines, Sony decided to offer in-game content as preorder bonuses. This is done to save costs for producing and shipping the free promotional physical items. Furthermore, going digital will also prevent the free items from being stolen or given away from retailers.
In total, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time has four preorder in-game bonuses. The first and probably the best is the Discovery Package, which includes a special level. The Bolt, Power and Space packages gives your exclusive skins in additions to better starting stats and weapons. Participating retailers are Amazon, Best Buy, Game Crazy and GameStop.
Fans that miss out on the preorder bonuses shouldn't worry as most of the content can be unlocked in Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time. Others will be available via downloadable content on the Playstation Network later down the road.
No matter where you buy Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, it is certainly one of the best exclusive games on the Playstation 3 this fall.
