Rating Philosophy's Purity One-step Facial Cleanser

C. Phillips
If you aren't familiar with Philosophy as a company you should look them up. They have a wealth of well-made products for your skin and body that, though pricey, are very effective and natural. Up for examination today is the one-step facial cleanser called Purity. I would like to inspect their claims and see if this simple one-step system is all it's intended to be.

The Philosophy behind it

On the bottle it reads, "Cleanliness is a new beginning; when you feel clean you can begin being who you really are." There is an intuitive truth to this philosophy. Being clean is something that we should all strive for. Not just in body but in mind and spirit. I give the philosophical aspect an A+.

As a Cleansing agent

One of the claims indicates that it "deep cleans pores and eliminates makeup build-up" along with hydrating while it "melts away makeup." Even if you wear a lot of makeup this product claims that it will deep clean it off without several steps (e.g. makeup remover, cleanser, toner, etc.). That's a mighty big claim! But I must admit that it lives up to it. Although I don't wear makeup on a regular basis, I tried out the claim on my hand. I put a really thick layer of 'long lasting' foundation on the back of my hand, making sure to get it into the wrinkles of my knuckles. I dispensed a dime-sized amount into my palm and with some warm water began to cleanse in circular motions. The foundation didn't come off in a big mess of flesh-colored water, but rather it cleansed it off evenly and without residue. What a miracle! This claim is very accurate.

Price

Obviously the price comes into play when it comes to Philosophy products. You can purchase an 8-ounce bottle for $20.00 or a 16-ounce bottle for $32.00. I don't recommend you go out and buy it just because of this great review. Try out a sampler pack of a few different items for $30.00. It might be a lot of money to start out with, but then you aren't wasting your money on something that doesn't work very well on you personally (and you get other products to try out as well). Even though I've found it a very good product, I may only purchase it once a year. If you are into quality products and don't mind spending the extra amount, than this is perfect for you. I must also add that a little goes a long way and the 16-oz bottle is a great deal, and could potentially last you more than half of a year when using a dime sized amount day and night.

For sensitive skin

The product claims to be fragrance free and 'simply' natural. Although there is a slight fragrance, it isn't enough to speak of; it's more of a mild scent like a lemon at a 2 mile distance from your nose, or a diluted furniture polish in lemon. The formula is very gentle on sensitive skin. I'm prone to breakouts when using new facial cleansers, but this one did not cause any problems. Your skin won't feel dried out after your rinse it off, either. This is surprising as most facial cleansers strip your natural oils off and don't provide any moisture. Nevertheless, Philosophy's Purity facial cleanser is a happy exception. The bottle tells us that 'natural oil extracts condition skin,' and they weren't joking. So when it comes to use for sensitive skin this product is an A.

Overall rating

I give this product an A for performance and meeting its claims. Good job Philosophy!
