Okay, so it was a Thursday night, well, really Friday morning because it was about 1 am. I had been on the Internet for several hours writing articles for AC. I went into my bedroom, and then proceeded to walk down the long hall to where my sink and counter top are. I started down the hall when just in front of me I saw something cross my path. It seemed to move like a ribbon in the wind. It went into the bathroom area where the toilet and shower are. At this point I wasn't scared or shocked as I really thought my eyes were so tired I was seeing things, or perhaps even imagining things. Sometimes when I'm really tired I tend to see shadows moving, With that I said well I better check out the bathroom.
I started to look on the left of the toilet and over into the shower, and didn't see anything. I said to myself, see, you just imagined it. Then I looked over at the right side of the toilet to see, a very large, and very long diamondback rattlesnake all curled up. I just kept saying to myself, oh my God, oh my God. Then within an instant I started shaking, although I didn't;t feel fear. All I kept thinking was I have to kill it, I have to kill it. I had to protect myself as well as my dogs. Then I started thinking where's the shovel, where's the shovel. I went to the back yard and grabbed a short handled straight edged shovel. I went back in to the bathroom directly. I don't know why but I didn't even think that the snake may be slithering around in the hall to get me. My adrenaline was extremely high. I went over to the snake who was still curled up. I was only about one foot form him. I took the shovel and hit him as hard as I could with the whole edge of the shovel. His tail started rattle, and I did it again. Again his tail was rattling. I couldn't understand why he wasn't cut in half because of how hard I had hit him.
With that. the snake started to move around the back of the toilet to come out the door. You never saw anybody back up so fast in your life. If a cop was around I probably would have gotten a speeding ticket. I was half way backed up in to the ha;ll as I saw him go along the bottom edge near the sink. I don't know if I finally blinked or what, but all of a sudden he was gone. I went to the living room and called my son. Of course my son wanted me to leave the house and come stay with him. I said no, I'm not leaving my dogs. After two hours on the phone with my son, and him not convincing me to leave. It was time to check things out.
I got my dog Honey, and put a leash on her, I took her down the hall where the rattle snake had been and near the bathroom, and closet he originally came out of. She had no reaction what so ever. Now mind you she's half German Sheppard and reacts quite well to anything. So, at this point I thought maybe the snake had gone out whatever hole he had come through to get into the house. I have no idea how he got into the house in the first place. Now, it was time to sleep. Yeah, right!
My two big dogs usually sleep on the living room couch. It's their couch not mine. Just ask them. Tonight Honey was going to sleep on my bed. This way if that rattle snake came a calling she could alert me. Although I felt pretty safe with my dog Honey on the bed, it still took quite awhile for me to go tot sleep. It was about 6:30 am before I finally passed out from exhaustion. I awoke the next morning, thankfully unscathed by the rattlesnake. I then proceeded later in the after\noon to go to my son's place.
When I got there we discussed all different options on what to do about finding the snake etc. With that my son pulled out his four foot Samurai sword. No kidding. He insisted I take as to protect my self form the snake. There's nothing like a sharp sword to cut off a rattlesnakes head with. I proceeded home. Carefully I crept in to the house. No snake in sight. Thank God, as I am more afraid now, then when I first found it. I think when I was confronted with the snake it was an it's either you or me mentality. The pure adrenalin got me through. Now, I'm just plain scared.
Well, it was time to turn in again and try and get some sleep. There I was on my bed, just me, my dog, and a Samurai sword. You know, I truly am ready for a little boring!
