This radio show is a one of a kind, and will be thirty years in running this coming March. It's not a radio show playing music, in fact one of the few songs you'll be hearing is that of Jeff Bates singing the Prison Show song, " So say hi to my brother Bill, and thanks for taking my call, it's nice to know there is a voice deep inside those walls, No matter how many doors they lock, they can't keep you away, It's nice to know your out there, The Prison Show with Ray".The first hour is all about prison issues, about police, guards, parole, and courts. There are special guests, people who are active in the prison issues. The "Mailbag" are letters that Ray gets from Texas inmates. He'll read the most important out loud to the audience, and discuss various prison issues.
The second hour, begins at 10PM Central time is all about the voices that call in. The voices of the Texas inmates family, friends and lovers. Texas prisoners have no access to telephones, and this is their only means of hearing the special voice of their loved ones."Shout Outs" are what the calls are called. You'll hear the sad, the lonely, and happy voices, and if you catch this show on the right night, you'll hear the precious voices of children, some singing "You Are My Sunshine" to their loved one. If you plan on calling in to "Shout Out" you can expect the phone to be busy, because as Ray puts it "Business is Good." But don't let that discourage you because when you finally do get on, and your on hold, and it's your turn, you'll be making your friend or your loved one the happiest he has been all week.
The "Shout Out" segment of the show began when one night Ray Hill, Founder, Producer and Host of the Prison Show was on the air when a phone call came through to the station. It was from a mother who was on her way to visit her son in prison when her car broke down. She asked Ray to tell her son "she would come back to visit when she had money," and that began a show that would be unique, and loved by all.
Meet The Prison Show Gang:
Ray Hill, a native Houstonian is Founder, Producer and Host of The Prison Show. Hill, a one time Gentleman burglar and jewel thief is a gem himself in everyone's eyes. Ray himself was sentenced to 160 years in Texas prison, but while in prison he became a writ-writer and had his sentenced reduced to eight years, and as a trustee completed his sentence in a little over four years. Rays awards, accomplishments and contributions are way too many to list, but you can read more about them here: http://www.theprisonshow.org/theprisonshow_006.htm
David Babb, Associate Producer joined the show around 2003, and serves as a fill in when Ray isn't available. He's pleasant, and knowledgeable about prisons and what goes on in them.
Marta Glass, CoHost of the show is known for her comments about prison issues, and it's a joy to hear her comments about the news she digs up. Marta's husband Jimmy Glass was executed by the state of Louisiana, and Marta is no stranger to prison issues. Marta always puts a smile on my face.
Frank Dewey, Program Engineer, better know as Dewey, an ex con himself, Vietnam Vet, and good friend to all. He works the buttons and all the technical things in the studio. Active on the Ray Hill Yahoo prison group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rayhillprison/ Dewey sends out the email every week to let everyone know who the special guests will be on the show.
Ann Stages, Telephone Coordinator, mans the phones. Anne was a former nurse in Texas prison when she met a man and fell in love. She lost not only her job but visitation privileges and went to The prison Show for help. Anne was married by proxy on The Prison Show. Anne is the friendly person who answers your call, asking what unit your loved one is in, and where your calling from. I'm always happy to hear Anne's voice.
Matt Helfrich, Production Assistant, helps wherever he is needed. He is there every week and sometimes may even be answering the phones.
Cindy Lang, Production Assistant, also helps wherever needed, and helps Anne answer the phones. Cindy helps in locating people and is active in prison issues.
White Wolf, also Production Assistant, helps in Native American issues, and with Native American prisoners.
There is no other show like this one. It's not only entertaining, and unique, it's important! It fills the hearts of Texas inmates with hope, with happiness, and fills the lonely hearts with love. No other radio show can do that. So be sure to tune in on Friday nights to The Prison Show, and listen for yourself.

We heard that there is new legislation regarding good time. Can you please explain to us how that would affect my loved one who is currently serving a 15-year sentence for Aggravated Robbery?
