Ray Hunt

The Horseman's Trinity

Elizabeth J. Baldwin
As a long standing, thirty plus years, member of the natural horseman's community I received several emails concerning the passing of Ray Hunt, the dean of the natural horsemans movement.

His website has posted his obituary. Various other sites such as Parelli International and John Lyons have posted tributes to him.

Ray Hunt the last remaining member of the Horseman's Trinity has been called back into the Presence.
Ray Hunt, with Bill Dorrance (1906-1999) and Tom Dorrance (1910-2003) were three who completely revolutionized the horse human relationship.

Their examples and teaching changed the way many of us worked with our horses. Instead of being "masters" we became our horses' friends. Some of the finest horsemen and women of today owe their abilities to these three men.

Ray Hunt passed away March 12, 2009 in Denton, Texas. Memorials and celebrations of his life are being held world wide. One will be at Oak Valle Ranch in Era, Texas. Another is planned for April 4, 2009 in Australia.

Ray's book Think Harmony With Horses was first published by Sul Ross University Press and has since become the definitive work on Natural Horsemanship.

Such great horsemen as Pat Parelli and John Lyons credit the Trinity for teaching them new ways of relating to horses.

Ray, Bill and Tom left an enormous legacy to the world of horses. We can only hope that their teachings will continue to grow and spread throughout the world.

I am sure his friends and many horses greeted Ray as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge into the green pastures and cool waters of the Bright Beyond.
