Raymond Barone, Sweet and Lovable Chauvinist

My Favorite Sitcom and Poetry Subject in April 2009

I
does everybody really love Raymond Barone?
his humor makes his family - except Marie - groan
- Ray's wife and kids wince often - but not Marie,
the Italian Mother, queen of meatballs, spaghetti, canoli ...

II
Ray, is the good provider - thanks to American sport and leisure
and the newspaper where Raymond earns this pleasure -
while his older, taller, wierder brother hopes to shine with NYPD blue
and never quite makes it; and Marie can't ever be fair to sons, two!

III
Frank Barone, the father, religiously uses the word "holy"
but his combinations merely give eating and farting the glory ...
and wonder of wonders, how well his sons do turn out -
Marie keeps the "familia" together - backbiting and all - no doubt!

IV
I love it best when Deborah (lovingly?) calls her hubby an "idiot":
he may be lovable to us - Okay, sometimes definitely not -
but while Deborah and Marie compete for honorable Mother Status
they hold their relatives together, and sometimes even enjoy sex!

V
Raymond is always begging for more, he has no other way to relieve stress
and Deborah (and Frank usually) showing less of this interest
then making us guffaw on those occasions when Deborah and Marie
suddenly give in to Cupid and passion (in the mirror - you and me!)

VI
perhaps I enjoy a bit too much this dysfunctional family
again because they resemble mine - and your's to some degree -
although imperfect crabs in a barrel, they do care for each other;
Ray the sweet chauvinist ... bumbling Bob Barone, freak and "failed" brother!

  • humor, sitcoms, raymond Barone, everybody loves raymond, family
do we laugh best at sitcoms when they hit close to home, and tell us something we instinctively know but may not have been able to express as well? How wonderful these many mirrors!

I've got just about every one of them memorized - and still watch them anyway.

Good day to you Bonnie; I hope i did not spoil the fun for you (I guess, we have to identify with the characters and families to keep watching any show?) Thanks and have a blessed day/week. Shalom from neildeo/Deonils
