Raynham, Massachusetts: Kenton Krime and Pat C Clement Tops at Raynham Greyhound Park

Raynham Greyhound Park has a new star, and although its old one is by no means ready to share the spotlight, he may just have to. Kenton Krime has run fourteen times at the Massachusetts dog track, located in Raynham, between Providence, Rhode Island and Boston. Ten of those times he has come out on top, including a complete domination of the 2007 Raynham Juvenile finals. His times are consistently some of the fastest of the card, and he has wonderful rushing speed. Pat C Clement, who currently leads all Raynham racers with two dozen victories, is the big kid on the block, but Kenton Krime may be ready to throw down the gauntlet to this great sprinter.

Pat C Clement, make no mistake, has been every bit as impressive as Krime, perhaps more so. Clement has had just one blemish on his record since the very end of March, a defeat by a head on May 27th that basically has cost him a winning streak of seventeen races. One of those triumphs was an annihilation of his Night of Stars field on May 12th, and several have been absolute blowouts. In his last Raynham test, on July 14th, Pat C Clement destroyed his competitors from the three box, going to the lead as he normally does and cruising to a nine race victory in 30.71.

The October 2004 son of Flying Penske and Pat C Clementine is a lifetime forty-six out of sixty-four at Raynham, and in 2007 he has missed the ticket just once. The 30.20 seconds clocking he put up earlier in the meet, on January 3rd, is still the fastest time run at Raynham this year, and before he was rested for two weeks on June 23rd, Clement stopped the Raynham timer at 30.27 seconds in a grade A feature.

Kenton Krime may not have a resume as complete as that, but he is going to get better and better with more experience, which is a scary thought for the rest of the Raynham top level sprinters. The Juvenile final on June 30th was just the twelfth race of his life that counted, yet Kenton Krime made it look easy. He came out of the two hole as a nine dimes to a dollar chalk and was never headed, flying to the front at the first turn by two and maintaining the margin throughout. He won by three in 30.60, win number seven in a row. During his next outing he was stepped on right out of the box and ran fourth by ten, but he rebounded his next time to post an easy box-to-wire effort when he blitzed an A bunch in 30.62. On July 15th he won handily by four in 30.84, paying just $2.40 to win.

The issue of who is the better greyhound can be settled when they meet, and only then if they both get clean runs. The Raynham faithful will certainly be looking forward to a duel between these two speed burners. Worthy of mention at the Bay State oval is the recent work of MW's Landquick, who since coming from Lincoln in nearby Rhode Island has not been beaten in the short 330 yard dashes. Landquick is four for four in these 3/16ths of a mile deals, and has already taken the measure of Sweet Arrival, who had been the best at this distance for the last few weeks. One of Kenton Krime's victims in the Juvenile, TK Sweet Ending, has been moved to the 660 yard routes, winning one and coming up just short in the other, looking like he could enjoy the switch from the sprints.
