Raysha and Me and the Little Sprout

Relationships, Friendships, New Beginnings

Raysha, a new neighbor, is a friend of mine who opposes everything I say. The opposition may not always be verbal. He has a way of showing it through his icy stares, cold shoulders, fake smiles, mocking gestures and all. And it keeps me wondering why simply because I barely knew him. We are friends for only two days now. We have played with other children in the neighborhood. So his behavior really baffles me. But then again, these might just be symptoms of his fear of the unknown.

I can't help but compare our friendship to a little sprout. You see, when a new flower sprouts everything around it is foreign, intimidating and scary. I can just imagine how comfortable this little sprout was underneath the ground. Deep in the heart of the earth is complete darkness. Imagine a place with no light, no sound, nothing to help him identify danger at all. This little sprout must have felt invincible, not knowing there are harsh realities above his peaceful haven. No threats exist in that world underground.

Now, for the first time, peeking and searching for familiar things scared this little thing, for there are none. Everything is new. The dazzling rays of the sun. The intimidating push of the slightest breeze. The head -spinning stars that hang above the dome comes nightfall. It just cannot be helped. The little sprout thinks it is too much. Its senses is truly saturated. Its privacy invaded. And yet, overwhelming it may be, I am sure that the little sprout is excited. Knowing full well that it has to summon its strength to face these elemental forces. This is the only way that the new world will acknowledge its existence. It must fight back.

Raysha may be that harsh to me but I am sure that it is one way of catching attention. Rather, a unique way of asking to be acknowledged in an environment so new and so novel as well as so far away from where he came from. I have a suspicion, however, that he is really fond of me as his new friend in this new place. My name is Adian.
