Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&Ms: Why Some Things Should Never Be Changed

JRS
Some things should not be messed with, period. We found this out in 1985 when the Coca-Cola company replaced its already successful 100-year-old classic Coke pop drink's formula with New Coke, a sweeter version of the classic formula. It turned out to be grave mistake. Now the M&M company has started messing with its good, plain-old classic hard candy-shell-covered milk chocolate candies. And while older versions of the candies did OK, some of the newer varieties just may follow the route of New Coke.

Strange New Flavors of M&M's Candies
I came across an odd-looking bag of M&M's chocolate candies in the convenience store attached to the gas station where I stopped. Even though these candies were on a display by themselves in the middle of the store, they caught my attention because of the brightly colored magenta packages. The M&M's logo stood out as one I recognized but I went over to investigate to see why this packet looked so strange. I soon discovered that these were Limited Edition Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&M's!

The Taste of Limited Edition Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&M's
Having found success earlier in the year when I discovered 3 Musketeers with Mint, chocolate candy bar, I thought I'd give these new M&M's a try.

The first thing I noticed when opening the package was the color and shape of these new Razzberry M&Ms. The candies were nearly identical to the package in their magenta coloring. These M&M's were shaped more like the classic plain milk chocolate M&M's rather than the peanut M&M's. The Razzberry M&Ms were slightly larger than the classic plain ones but not quite the neat little saucers like the older ones. These were inconsistent in shape and size.

I popped one in my mouth and was immediately turned off. The taste was medicinal like cough syrup. I did not eat anymore! It even seemed to have a slight after-taste like you find with artificial sweeteners. As an afterthought, it occurred to me that this raspberry-chocolate flavor would not be too bad if it were melted down and served over ice cream. It wouldn't even be bad as a hot chocolate drink. However, it definitely did not work as a stand-alone candy. I definitely would not be purchasing these again!

The Limited Edition Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&M's packet had a magenta colored M&M character holding a raspberry covered in the letter 'M'. Next to it was the slogan, 'Get Razzed! Then go to mms.com.' Strangely enough when I went to mms.com no where on the site could I find mention of these new Limited Edition Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&M's!
There was however, lots of promotion for new, limited edition M&M'S® Wildly Cherry chocolate candies, which were introduced in February. I haven't seen those in stores yet, but I would wager that they've got to be better than these new Limited Edition Razzberry Milk Chocolate M&M's!

Usually M&M's never go wrong w/ their new flavors (peanut, peanut butter, mint, etc.) but these don't sound appetizing at all! Thanks for the warning!

I can say without doubt I wont be trying any fruit flavored M&M's. I like plain milk chocolate and on occasion peanut m&m's. Call me a classic chocolate lover! Great review.
