Razzie Awards 2011 Winners Mostly From Two Bombs

Robert Dougherty
The Razzie Awards 2011 winners were rather dishonorable. However, the Razzie Awards 2011 winners had dishonor placed upon them months ago, when they were panned in theaters. Their reputation as the worst of the worst was already settled, and now it has been made official by bad movie lovers. What's more, this year's show won't even have one of the champions accept an Oscar the very next night. As such, the Razzie Awards winners have all the trophies they're ever going to get this year.

This year's field of awful films was fairly crowded. Not only did it include The Last Airbender and Sex and the City 2, the likes of Twilight: Eclipse, Valentine's Day, Vampires Suck, The Bounty Hunter and more were up for the infamous prizes.

Yet the winners were led by two of the most hated movies of 2010. The Last Airbender and Sex and the City 2 were met with particular derision, hate and scorn from critics and audiences last summer. Even their loyal fan bases weren't that happy with how things turned out, which was a clear sign right there.

However, it was The Last Airbender that took the biggest award for worst picture, in M. Night Shyamalan's latest career low. For good measure, Shyamalan "won" individual honors for worst director and screenplay. To seal the deal, Jackson Rathbone won worst supporting actor for The Last Airbender and Twilight, while the movie had the worst eye-gouging misuse of 3-D.

Still, the Razzie winners also looked down at Sex and the City 2. All four leads split the worst actress honors, although the entire cast was declared worst screen couple/ensemble, and the film was the worst prequel, rip off or sequel.

There were only two categories where no one from The Last Airbender or Sex and the City 2 prevailed. Ashton Kutcher didn't need to be in those bombs to win worst actor, while Jessica Alba was named worst supporting actress for being in four movies.

Since most of the Razzie winners were from Sex and the City 2 and The Last Airbender, there wasn't much room for diversity. Valentine's Day was the only other movie to get mentioned more than once thanks to Kutcher and Alba -- and they also won for being in other bad films.

Tonight, the Oscars stand to come down between The Social Network and The King's Speech. But their champions should be more diverse than the Razzie winners, especially since there are more categories. Yet technically, Airbender and Sex and the City 2 could have more hardware this weekend than most of the best pictures.
