Razzies Announce Worst Movies, Actors and Actresses of the Decade

Nominating the Bottom of Hollywood's Barrel for Bronx Cheers

Linda Ann Nickerson
Hollywood denizens wait eagerly each year for award nominations. The Academy Awards (Oscars), the Golden Globe Awards, the People's Choice Awards and other honors entire movie moguls, actors, actresses and film buffs. What about The Golden Raspberry Awards, commonly known as The Razzies?

For nearly 30 years, movie critic and author John Wilson (Everything I Know I Learned at the Movies and The Official Razzie Movie Guide) has produced an anti-awards program of sorts. Wilson created The Razzies in 1980, enlisting the voting assistance of nearly 650 Golden Raspberry Award Foundation members from across the United States and several other countries.

The annual Razzies are intended to recognize the worst of cinematic releases. Although The Golden Raspberry Awards are awarded annually, based on movies released the previous year, the ceremony for 2010 will include special decade awards. Here are the Razzie Award nominations for the top three categories.

Get those Bronx cheers ready, film fans.

Nominated for Razzie Awards for the Worst Movie of the Decade were Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 (2000), Freddy Got Fingered (2001), Gigli (2003), I Know Who Killed Me (2007) and Swept Away (2002). According to The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, these five movies were the worst of all cinematic releases from 2000 through 2009.

Razzie Award Nominations for the Worst Actors of the Decade

The following leading actors were nominated for the Razzie Award for the Worst Actor of the Decade: Ben Affleck (nominated for his performances in Daredevil, Gigli, Jersey Girl, Paycheck, Pearl Harbor and Surviving Christmas), Eddie Murphy (nominated for his performances in Adventures of Pluto Nash, I Spy, Imagine That, Meet Dave, Norbit and Showtime), Mike Myers (nominated for his performances in The Cat in the Hat and The Love Guru), Rob Schneider (nominated for his performances in The Animal, Benchwarmers, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, Grandma's Boy, The Hot Chick, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, Little Man and Little Nicky) and John Travolta (nominated for his performances in Battlefield Earth, Domestic Disturbance, Lucky Numbers, Old Dogs and Swordfish).

How many of these Razzie-nominated actors' performances did you see during the past decade? Do you agree or disagree with The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation's assessments?

Who will win the Razzie Awards for the Decade?

In 2010, The Golden Raspberry Awards ceremony will be held at Los Angeles' Barnsdall Gallery Theatre on Saturday, March 6th, a night familiarly tagged as Oscar's Eve, the night preceding the famous Academy Awards.

Although the suspense may be more than movie buffs can bear, the awards will not be announced until Oscar's Eve.

That's just too funny. I do like Ben Afleck though, I didn't think he deserved to be on this list, though I do admit I've only seen him in that Matt Damon movie. Anyhow, I was totally unaware of this award. Apparently I don't get out much. ;)

Aargh, it makes me kinda mad when they rag on Swept Away, because if they would just say it wasn't as good as the original, more people might see the original, which is a great movie! All the same, even Madonna's Swept Away is a good movie compared to Freddie Got Fingered!

Good info. We'll have to see who wins.

Oh I really DON'T agree. I like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. They don't pretend to be Oscar winning actors just performers an I enjoy them. As for John Travolta, so he made a mistake. The critics need to get over it already. The man has put forth many legendary performances that far outweigh one bad one. Rob Schneider should win for the men. He's really not a good actor. As for the women, I'd like a three way tie between Paris, Lindsay and Madonna. Lindsay can act when she wants to but apparently doesn't care that much about it anymore. Neither Paris or Madonna can unfortunately.

Never heard of these movies. But that's nothing new. I am extremely selective.

Thanks for the info and I love the template on this one, too!
