Dani D.
Imagine a candlelit dinner with champagne, roses, and chocolates; your Valentine's Day Dinner is almost perfect. What's missing: the perfect soundtrack for the evening. Here's a Top Ten Valentine's Day song list suggestion for you and your Valentine.

10. I'll make Love to You- Boys II Men

One of the most famous R&B quartets of the 1990's brought I'll Make Love to You in 1994 and it has remained on most lists of top R&B love songs since then. It is one song that just doesn't go away and if someone was asked what song you would play for a romantic evening, more than likely someone would say this song. Boys II Men was a very popular group at the time and other songs from this group would probably be on a list too. Who doesn't want to make love on on Valentine's Day?

9. Love of my Life- Brian Mcknight

Nominated for two Grammies in 2002 this song is a smooth ballad of Brian Mcknight showcasing his signature falsetto voice. With lyrics like: "the irreplaceable love of my life" this song will definitely induce emotions of love in you and your Valentine.

8. The Sweetest Love- Robin Thicke

After his breakout album, "The Evolution of Robin Thicke", Robin Thicke's fans were fully aware of his capabilities in writing and singing love songs, with hits like Lost Without You and Can You Believe, which were also considered for this list of Valentine's songs, at the end The Sweetest Love, from his album "Something Else" won. Robin Thicke describes the feelings of two people who are brand new with love so well with this song and the fact love can make people smile and just be happier in general, feelings that we all should feel on Valentine's Day and any other day for that matter. When Robin Thicke does a song it seems like he puts his on emotions out on the line too.

7. The Lady in my Life- Michael Jackson

Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Wanna Be Starting Something, you wonder can Michael be sensual? Answer: YES! The last track on the album "Thriller," the late MJJ the King of Pop, takes it down, with The Lady in my Life. This track is definitely Quiet Storm quality, including a few lit candles and maybe some incense or oils burning too. Michael is smooth and escalates in the middle then slows it back down towards the end...and does so with control. As for the love explained in the song, summarizing, he basically sings that he loves this woman in the moment they are in and after that moment he will continue to love this women forever throughout the years. He sings "even when we're old and gray, you will always be the lady in my life," and although his life ended the summer of 2009, this song and the collection of his songs will stay with his fans, even when they are old and gray.

6. Until the end of Time-Justin Timberlake featuring Beyonce

As if Justin Timberlake's album version wasn't delicious enough adding Beyonce made it explode into even more loveliness. When the official version with Beyonce was released the song picked up in digital sales. Also featured on the song was the Benjamin Wright Orchestra. If the collaboration of these two super pop entities doesn't help this love song, then just listen to the lyrics because Justin literally sings: "This one's for the lovers...."

5. Close the Door- Teddy Pendergrass

Lyrically, Vocally, Instrumentally; Close the Door is a great song for a very romantic, yet sexual Valentine's night. Teddy Pendregrass who passed recently (January 13 , 2010) was well known for his thick, masculine, smooth, baritone vocals that could melt a woman into a man's arms.

4. If This Isn't Love- Jennifer Hudson

It seems like American Idol is overrated, considering more non-winners seem to do better than winners. Jennifer Hudson, a non-winner, became an Oscar Winner and Grammy Winner. She won the Grammy for her debut self titled album, which includes the song If This Isn't Love, which was the second single from that album. Hudson asks a question that everyone asks in the beginning of the relationship and sometimes a year or two into it and then says "I could be dreaming or just plan crazy." Although this song is only probably half of what Hudson can do with her voice, it still brings that tender love from a woman's perspective. Usually when a man comes into a woman's life onlookers such as friends and family are often trying to down play the love that is in her life when she would just like to flow in it...that is what this song is about...just knowing that what you have is love and being happy in that love.

3. Halo-Beyonce

Like many of Beyonce's songs this one leaves you with a good feeling inside. Halo can really start the waterworks when you think about true love and what she is expressing about love in the song. Singing, "I can see your halo," is a bit more creative than singing, you're an angel. Beyonce seems to be able to take a simple concept to the next level.

2. Adore-Prince

Many songs by Prince could be on this list considering this entertainer's high sexual content, but Adore is one of the artist's best. Even though over all he is talking about sex in this song he is also talking about love, it's deeper than that because it is the adoration kind of love. That is one thing men don't understand about women. Women don't just want love, they want to be adored. With lines like "If God one day struck me blind/ your beauty I'd still see/Love's to weak to define/just what you mean to me." Lyrics and musical composition makes this one of the top songs for Valentine's Day.

1. At Last- Etta James

The song was written and performed in 1941, but the 1960 version sung by Etta James is the most known, that is until Beyonce did a cover of that version, when she portrayed Etta James, the great blues singer in the movie "Cadillac Records." This song has continued to be one of the most romantic and touching songs for just about 70 years. The song was such a big re-hit in 2009, Beyonce performed it for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the Presidential Inaugural Ball.

Yeah I was leaning towards those songs too, but felt like I needed to mix it up, I found it easier to speak of songs from the 2000's of course but looked to the past for some all time faves too. Also these songs where the songs that I didn't mind listening to 100+ times to write this article. I also found that "Sweet Thing" by Rufus is a new fave of mine, but only Chaka Khan because she sings effortlessly opposed to Mary J Blige who merely copies.

Those are all great and a few of my all time favs are:
    Always & Forever, Heatwave
Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This, Rachelle and Will
We Both Deserve Each Other's Love, LTD
Ribbon in the Sky, Stevie Wonder
You know what? Since R&B is predominantly about the L-O-V-E it's hard to stop naming titles!

An exquisite selection of tunes from a young old head as Michael Baisden might say. Sound justification and commentary will no doubt induce a few digital sales.
