R&B Singers Turned into Fragrance Designers

The Power of Smell

Mr. New Material
What's your favorite fragrance and why? More and more people are beginning to show interest in the fragrance industry in order to make their self stand out as a name headliner in today's world. The fragrance industry used to be conquered by foreign designers, enthusiast and big corporations. Those days are officially over! Many fragrances today are sponsored and even created by entertainers. Some of the best fragrances are closely connected with many R&B singers. Below I will list the most talked about and popular fragrances created by R&B singers.

Beyonce- True Star & True Star Gold: Although the perfumes True Star and True Star Gold are backed by big spender Tommy Hilfiger, Beyonce has defiantly let her presence be known when it comes to inspiration. The former Destiny Child's star chose to capture her piece of the fragrance industry by releasing the True Star. The heavy floral smell of True Star promises to give off a sweet long lasting aroma through out the day. Many women believe that Beyonce should have come out with the fragrance a long time ago, however; most feel the timing was just right. Although this perfume has been out for awhile, the sells continue to sky rocket thru the roof. The soft blend of fruits such as kiwi and raspberry combined with the sweet smells of flowers and honey, prove why True Star Gold is a force to be reckon with.

Mary J. Blige- Unknown: R&B songstress Mary J. Blige is well on her way to creating her "claim to fame" project! The soulful singer plans to release her own personal fragrance sponsored by Carol's Daughter products. While the name of the fragrance has yet to be released, Mary J. promises her supporters that they won't be disappointed. The Carol's Daughter Corporation is partially owned by Mary J. Blige, Will & Jada Smith and Jay-Z so look out for new upcoming products.

Usher- Usher for Men & Usher for Women: Although Usher has a way with vocals, many believe that his chance at true stardom has been put to a halt because of his latest list of fragrances. While the men's cologne has gotten some of the highest reviews, many questionable eyebrows have been raised in regards to his women's fragrance "Usher for Women". Most complain that the fragrance is too "overly sweet" or "an imitation" of other fragrances already out on the market. Just because Usher's fragrance is on the list of "most talked about" doesn't mean all the talk is good!

J-Lo- Glow, Still, Live, Deseo: Whoever said you have to stick to just one occupation in life lied! J. Lo is unlike a lot of other R&b singers. Instead of having one fragrance out, she has lots! Her Glow perfume received some of the highest reviews when it first appeared on the market. Continuing to progress J. Lo reached for the mountains to release her newest experiment titled "Deseo". Although it's been out since the end of January, the fragrance seems to be holding onto the hot spot in the world of fragrance. The fragrance walks a thin line between young and sophisticated.

Mariah Carey- "M": Mz. Carey, the smooth skinned songstress, tried her luck at the "sweet smell" game by releasing "M". Yeah the name sounds a little out of place, but Mariah's floral, vanilla based fragrance has been holding it's own against the major leaguers. The energetic, upbeat perfume features a bottle with Mariah's signature butterfly on it. The marshmallow notes blended with the freshness of sea breeze set this fragrance off just the right way.

Ashanti- Precious Jewel: R&B princess Ashanti has created her own line of fragrances. Along with having a list of her own body sprays, she has a highlighting fragrance known as "Precious Jewel". The perfume promises to stand out about the rest due to its sweet and rosey floral blend. Along with having the right appeal of great smell, it will also be offered in all stores. This means all the way down from Kmart and Walmart to Macy's.
