R&B Stars Behind Bars

Singin' the Bluez

Mr. New Material
Remember when it used to only be rappers that went to jail? Well now it seems as though a lot of R&B stars are being locked up for some of the same charges. Are these stars really in the wrong? Or is this just further proof that Hip Hop cops are extending their list of R&B celebrities to watch?

Ne-Yo: Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Smith was arrested for wild and reckless driving in Cobb County, GA. He was reportedly going over 100 mph in his 2006 Range Rover. When stopped for the incident he was found to be driving without a license. He was taken to the station where he had to under go a mug shot. He was booked but then later released on $1,300 bond. This is just the latest of Ne-Yo legal woes as he still has a pending lawsuit against R.Kelly's tour promoter for getting kicked off the Double Up tour. He sticks with the belief that R.Kelly booted him out of jealously because he was attracting more ticket buyers than Kel's. Although he is scheduled to appear in court on May 25th, the R&B singer currently has upcoming projects with Usher, Mario and Janet Jackson.

J. Holiday: J. Holiday, whose real name is Nahum Grymes, was arrested on drug possession charges while driving home from his performance in Maryland. He was pulled over in the city of Salisbury and arrested when cops spotted marijuana on his shirt and a strong stench of ganja. He also, the same as Ne-Yo, was clocked on the radar driving like a "bat outta hell." He and another man were arrested, but J. Holiday was the only one to take the drug possession rap. Guess that's what happens when you leave the evidence all over your shirt for the Jakes to see. J. Holiday has an upcoming tour with Trey Songz in the works.

Tank: Durrell Babbs a.k.a Tank was arrested and tasered after leaving the House of Blues in New Orleans. He was attending a list of NBA All-star events and was arrested later on that night for intoxication, disorderly conduct and even resisting arrest. Apparently Tank and his female associate were walking to his car when police instructed him to find another route due to the roadblocks in the street. Tank proceeded to question the officers as to why he couldn't past, and they began throwing him on the ground and tasering him. He was taken to the hospital to fix the wounds on his back and then later hauled off to jail. Tank plans to file a lawsuit for police brutality. Hope all goes well in this case since this is the first piece of publicity Tank's received in awhile.

....I'm dreading the day ya'll get to the opera folks, bro.... ;o) They aren't such a bunch of stiff champagne-drinking old maids anymore!

Bat outta hell, that 's the technical term. I gree with shirlene. I do smuch driving commuting back and forth to work that when i get a chance to have enough money to have a driver, I'm having one. I don't even drink that much. I u nderstand they have money and the want to drive their Maybachs, and Bentleys. Why not hire one of those companies that drive you around in your own car.

I knew about this and I think it's stupid for a film star to not have a driver take care of things. Get your drink on and have someone drive you...you can afford it! At what price does one get intelligence or common sense?

Thanks for the updates! I had no idea that these folks had all this going on!

OMG I did not know this. These are some of my fav artists. Humm. I know everyone's human but not very good example.

Children and young adults look up to many of these people in and outside of this article as role models, so it's sad when these stories come out, because it portrays a cool image to them sometimes, even though it's wrong. I understand that we are all human with flaws, and I'm not ever judging anyone, but it's a blessing to be at that status, and to whom much is given much is required, so you step into a whole nother level of responsibilty, it's not about just you anymore and to think that it is because you got a little more money, is down right selfish......that's all I have to say....God Bless!!!.........Great article

Well I feel what you sayin' Mz. Valerie but it's a proven fact that police officers have the names and license plates of rap and r&b stars so it's really no tellin'.

no, I don't think celebrity makes them more of a target. It may seem that way after the fact when it gets reported and talked about a lot, but I seriously doubt if the cops stopping these vehicles even know who the person is till they check the license.
