RBC Canadian Open: John Daly Back in Contention This Weekend in Vancouver

John Daly, the man they use to call "Wild Thing" has had a roller coaster life both on and off the golf course.

Of course, everyone knows the tales of Long John teeing balls up off of beer cans in a Pro-Am or smacking his ball with his putter while it was rolling back to him.

All that seems to be in the past now for the two-time major champion from Arkansas.

Daly is playing in the RBC Canadian Open this week in Vancouver British Columbia'"and is in contention.

It has been a while since Daly has been this close to the lead in a final round of a tournament.

In 2010, he has been in 13 events on the PGA Tour and made the cut in only four of them. His highest finish being a T38 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

This season, Big John has struggled to put four consecutive good rounds together to get him to this point as he has this weekend in Vancouver.

"It feels good, it's been a long time," a smiling Daly told Reuters. "I have been hitting the ball pretty decent this year.

"I have played three weeks in a row and I've always been a guy, if I can play five or six weeks in a row, then I feel like I can get something out of it.

"I haven't been able to do that in three-or-four years.

"I've always been a guy that learns playing competitively rather than going home and beating balls."

Daly is no stranger to playing well in Canada, having won here in 1992 when they played the B.C. Open there.

The trimmed down Daly is currently at two-under par and in a tie for fifth at the RBC Canadian Open, only three shots off the lead.

With rounds of 70, 71 and 69 this week, it remains to be seen if he can in fact put four solid rounds of golf together this season.

I know one thing is for sure. The galleries following Daly today will be some of the biggest on the course, as he is always a fan favorite where ever he is teeing it up.

What a story it would make for tomorrow's headlines around the golfing world if John Daly could win his first title in more than six years.
