RCA 7" Dual Screen Mobile DVD System: Set Up and Installation
This DVD system came with a twenty-one page user manual. If you have ever connected any DVD player or game system to a television you do not need this user manual. The cords are color coded and labeled to make set up incredibly easy.
One monitor controls the DVD and all the commands while the other monitor supplies the power to both. The only downside is that there are cords running back and forth between the two monitors. The power cord plugs into the car's power outlet.
Two Velcro straps came with the DVD system in order to install the dual screen DVD player. The straps went through the back of each monitor, around the headrest, and attached to themselves. As long as the straps are tight, the DVD player did not move or wobble at all.
The user manual also provided the schematic for setting up the portable DVD player to only use one screen.
RCA 7" Dual Screen Mobile DVD System: Picture Quality
I surprised at the picture quality on a 7" LCD screen. The 7" screen is large compared to other portable DVD players. Plus this system includes two monitors instead of just one.
The quality, brightness, contrast, and color are very well balanced. We did encounter some sun glare at times, but we were able to correct the picture by adjusting the display. Each monitor had its own separate brightness, color, and contrast controls.
RCA 7" Dual Screen Mobile DVD System: Sound Quality
The sound quality on the RCA Mobile DVD System was fair. Each monitor has its own volume control. The speakers are located behind the monitors so the person sitting in the front seats gets the full volume of the DVD.
The solutions to this problem are the headphone jacks. You can plug headphones into each monitor and control the volume of separately.
RCA 7" Dual Screen Mobile DVD System: Special Features
As I was setting up the portable DVD player my husband joked that all it needed was a remote. I pulled out the remote control and tossed it to him. The remote made it easy to play, stop, pause, rewind, and fast forward the DVD. It was small enough and simple enough that my six year-old easily mastered the controls. The only thing the remote control did not control was the volume since each monitor had its own volume control.
The RCA Dual Screen Mobile DVD System will also play CDs or JPG discs. The remote controls the tracks to be played, repeated, or selected.
The RCA Dual Screen Mobile DVD System cost $129 at Target. I opted for the dual screen system as opposed to the single portable DVD player so that there was a screen in front of each of my two kids. The single, portable DVD systems ranged from $89-$129 so the price was at the higher end of the DVD systems.
This mobile DVD player will do almost everything a regular DVD player will do. Overall, I give it 4 out 5 stars. It loses points because of the location of the speakers but I think it's a great value for the price. It kept my kids occupied in the car for a twelve hour round trip and that was money well spent.

Post a CommentHave had one for over a year and not one problem yet. Love it!
nothing but problems with ours since the day we bought it
Linda- Thank you for bringing this up, I didn't even think to look into the possibility of using the DVD player at home. The power connection is 12 volt only. The instructions give directions to hook the DVD player up to a TV or stereo receiver with audio/video cables. It also has a desk stand. The DVD player does not come with a standard plug but you can purchase a power adapter from RCA.
Question can you use an adaptor to use the Dvd player inside your house or does it only work in the car
Anything to help occupy kids is certainly money well spent. lol. I've always trusted RCA products. Thanks for this review.
Such luxury!
Sounds like a winner! Anything to keep the kids occupied on a long road trip is worth it's weight in gold :D
Too bad I am on the naughty list again this year or Santa would bring me one.
Great review - we bought portable DVD players for our last trip to visit family in PA. It's a 12-hour trip one way and they were soooo worth it!
Nicely Written :)
