Café Annie was a long-standing tradition among Houstonians which is one of many reasons that many people were upset to see the famous restaurant recently shut its doors. However, the old Café has become the new RDG Bar Annie and has re-opened less than a mile from its old location.

Perfectly positioned on Post Oak between San Felipe and Westheimer, RDG is the brainchild of Chef Robert Del Grande, who, as part of the Schiller Del Grande conglomerate, is also behind Houston mainstays Café Express and Taco Milagro. In a new building with a new style, the new RDG caters to the same audience as the old Café Annie, but reaches out to a new group of trendy Houstonians. A new breath of life replaces stodginess and encourages a younger generation to take part of one of Houston's most reliable and well-known culinary traditions.

A visitor to the new RDG is welcomed with a contemporary atmosphere. Up a flight of stairs is a beautiful covered patio, perfect for coffee with co-workers or an after-work drink, and for lunch and dinner, an airy dining room awaits. The décor is a mix of traditional and contemporary and though lunchtime dining can be quite loud, the atmosphere lends itself to both business meetings as well as special events for friends.

The menu items are all traditional Del Grande creations including surf and turf as well as beautifully prepared salads and exquisite soups. Lunch options include a Grill a la carte menu as well as a prix fixe three-course option. Dinner items are even more exciting, and with specialties like Gulf Crab and Bacon Wrapped Texas Quail, guests will get a feel for the Chef's masterful culinary design that specializes in local ingredients. The wait staff is helpful and attends to every detail, making this dining experience truly world-class.

Hours of operation are 11:30am to 10pm Monday through Saturday; 5pm to 9pm Sunday. Even business lunch guests should not plan on a "quick lunch bite", but an exceptional culinary experience. Family dinners with young children may be difficult as dinner parties can continue through the night, but special occasions taking place at RDG will certainly be remembered. Reservations are requested but not required; call 713.840.1111 for more information. Alternatively, visit the RDG Bar Annie website.
