Re-gift Giving Ideas

Re-gifting is moving in to cyberspace. Repackaging a gift that may have been a little less than you wanted and giving it to another person has been around for a while. Etiquette once required a forget-about-it period. Thanking the giver and then slowly moving the undesired gift closer to the attic storage area. The gift, if not forgotten by the recipient would be rewrapped for a birthday or any other gift-giving occasion. I use to love re-gifting the gift to the giver the following Christmas. For a while, a few of my friends got a kick out of it. I use to do the same thing with birthday cards. My nephew and I exchanged the same card for a few years.

Now you don't have to worry about etiquette, just rewrap and re-give. That to me takes a little of the trill out of re-gifting. It was fun trying to be sneaky and not get caught. Now there are new ways to re-gift that are fun with little chance of being caught.

Gift card exchanges are wonderful. Say you get a gift card from a friend for 100 bucks at the Wal-mart. You can get online and exchange the gift card for one at Bass Pro Shops. The reason I picked these two stores is this. My friend knows I am one of the few people in the world that doesn't live with in 100 miles of a Wal-mart. The card was his way of saying, "get off your butt and come visit me". Since I fish for a living, the Bass Pro Shop card is my way of saying, "No, get your butt down here and go fishing".

I love the whole idea of the gift card thing. Instead of getting socks and under ware, which was a way too overdone family tradition, now I can give Victoria's Secret gift cards. This is one gift card that is a no brainer re-gift candidate. Who would not want to receive a VS card?

If you are too embarrassed to try re-gifting, gift cards offer other options. Auction them off on Ebay. Ebay auctions are a blast to watch and you get cash you can use to buy the giver another totally unappreciated gift. You can also get online and use the gift card to buy a gift for the giver. This is great if the giver is someone that should not have given you a gift to begin with. This way you can quickly get them a gift after the fact and blame the tardiness of the gift on the Postal Service.

If you don't what to play the re-gifting game, gift cards are great for donating to the under privileged. What giver could blame you for making a charitable donation in their name? So the next time you get a Joe Boxer gift certificate from a long lost friend you forgot, send it to Brittany Spears. She seems to be in need of under ware.

I regifted several items this year. I keep all the items for regifting in my closet so I know where they are.
