Reaching Your Goals

A Sure-fire Method to Reaching Your Goals

We all have goals that we would like to reach. Whether the goal is big or small, it is there. Many people fail to reach their goals simply because they do not really know how to go about reaching them. These people stumble along always wondering why they haven't reached their goal when they think they should have. They attribute their failure to many things, but really do not know what the problem is. There is a way to reach even the biggest of goals.

Having a time limit on your goals can be helpful, but it can also hurt your ability to reach the goal. If you have a goal, it is best to write it down. Make yourself a list of all the bigger steps that are needed to reach that goal, then all of the even smaller steps that are needed to reach that goal. Within every goal in life, there are many smaller goals, or steps that need to be taken.

If I were to say that I want to weigh 120 pounds, which is a goal. If I put a time limit on my goal, such as, I want to weigh 120 pounds in three months, I may actually harm myself. If in three months time, I have lost weight, but I do not weigh 120 pounds, I may feel bad about myself and give up that goal all together. If I write my goal on paper, along with the steps I need to take to reach it, I will be able to see myself accomplishing my goal without hindering my own progress. For instance, my goal is to weigh 120 pounds, I need to change my eating habits, and exercise regularly to get there. To reach those two smaller goals, I need to eliminate the bad foods from my house, replace them with healthy food, and take time to exercise each day: walk 30 minutes on Mon., Wed., and Fri., go to the gym on Tues., and Thurs. . These little goals will help me reach the bigger ones, and ultimately, the biggest goal I have of weighing 120 pounds. I have not put a time limit on my goal, because I want to succeed. Instead, I have written what I need to do to get there, and as I accomplish those little steps, I will find myself reaching my major goal.

This method is effective, even for a child. If your child tells you that he has a goal of playing outside after school, he also knows that there are things that have to be done to reach that goal. If your child writes those things on paper and crosses them off as they are finished, he can see himself reaching his goal. This makes him feel better and like the goal is attainable.

For all of us who have goals in life, this list making method really does work. It helps you to visually see your goal as well as how to get there. It helps you stay focused on your goal as you cross things off the list that you have accomplished in order to reach your goal. Knowing what the goal is and what steps are needed to get there, along with seeing them on paper can help anyone reach their goals in life, no matter how big or small.
