Avoid the Best Westerns and Look for the Super 8's

In May of this year my family and I traveled across the country and we stayed at a few motels along the way. We stayed at a Days Inn, that was just horrible. Very dirty and full of mold. This was in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Next we stayed at a Super 8 Motel up near South Bend Indiana. That I have to say was the best Motel of all the Motel's we stayed at, the lady that checked us in was so sweet and friendly, and they have an awesome free breakfast, with waffles, cerial, fruits, coffee, tea, juices, and donuts too.

The worst experience we had was at a Best Western and what I found in the bathroom just appauled me. Not only had the bathroom not been cleaned, but there was poop on the floor by the toilet! My husband went to the front desk and told the attendant about it and asked for cleaning supplies so I could scrub the bathroom. I don't think I need to tell you how upset I was at the fact that we had to pay over $90.00 to stay the night in a motel and I had to scrub the bathroom before we could use it. The fact that we were quoted $80.00 when we checked in and our reciept was for over $90.00 when we checked out really upset us! We asked for the manager to call us, but we never did receive a call from any manager.

Those were the only motels we stayed at. We found that most were moldy and not fit for a family that has severe allergies to the indoor environment. WE found that many campgrounds have nice log cabins they rent out for about half of what a Motel room will cost you, so we stayed in cabins, and camped while we traveled rather than rent any more Motel rooms. It was much cleaner and the views were awesome in many of the campgrounds.

So when traveling and staying at Motels, I suggest staying far away from Best Western. If you must stay at a Motel, Super 8's are very friendly, clean, the personel are sweet, and very helpful, and the free breakfast is awesome. However if you want to realy enjoy your travels, check into one of the campgrounds along the way that have camping cabins, they are cheap, and very comfy, and the atmosphere is wonderful, you'll love it!

I like the tip for staying in campgrounds. I've stayed in a lot of motels, though, and one Best Western or Super 8 is not necessarily how all will be.

Thanks for the article! Good tip on camping and staying in cabins rather than motel rooms.
