Read the Bible in One Year

The Bible is God's main method of communicating His will in our lives. Christians know that they should be in the Word daily, but is it really possible with our busy lives to read the entire Bible in a year? Yes, absolutely. I have read through the Bible 5 years in a row and have not done it the same way twice. In as little as 15 minutes a day, even you could read the Bible in a year. Here are six different ways you can accomplish that.

1. The most common way is read through the Bible from beginning to end. Carve out 15 minutes each day to read. If you are studying the Bible, you may want to allow a few more minutes for journaling or noting the meaning of the verses. My favorite Bible for this approach would be the Life Application Bible. Every section has an explanation and life application questions to help you connect with what you are reading.

2. If you don't want to be in the Old Testament for 9 months before getting into the New Testament, you can read through one book at a time, jumping back and forth from Old to New Testaments. Still read 15 minutes each day, working through each book and carefully make a note of which books you have read.

3. One of the best ways to get through the Bible is with the One Year Bible. This approach arranges the Bible in 365 daily readings that each includes one Old Testament, one New Testament, a Psalm and a Proverb reading. Just follow along each dated reading and you'll finish right on time.

4. The Chronological Bible is great for history buffs who really want to learn more about the Bible with respect to time. This Bible is organized in the order that it was written. This helps you understand Bible contemporaries and puts the Bible within a historical perspective. Again, 15 minutes a day through that version will get you through it in a year.

5. Don't like to read? You can listen to the Bible in a year by getting one of many CD Bible collections that are on the market. My favorite is called Bible Alive, a collection of 61 CD's complete with sound effects and a variety of actors voicing characters. The first year that I listened to this one, I went from beginning to end. This year, I am listening to three Old Testament CD's and then one New Testament one. Mixing it up, helps to keep it interesting and I find that I don't fall behind.

6. If you don't own a Bible, or if you do all of your reading by computer, www.Bibleinayear.org is a great resource. This free membership service will send you a daily email Bible reading in a choice of 8 Bible versions and three reading options. You can choose chronological, from start to finish or alternating scriptures.You don't have to wait until January to get started reading the Bible daily. You can choose your first day and read throughout the year. Your anniversary date can be any day you choose. You'll feel good about this accomplishment and will be surprised at how much closer you will get to the Lord taking this step to understanding God's Word.
