Wrinkles are a fact of life. Some of us wrinkle earlier in life than others, but happy or sad, wrinkles occur on our faces. Good genes help some of us to avoid massive wrinkles early in life while poor health habits and stressful life styles help to promote wrinkles earlier than need be. Help can be found in life changes and in some terrific anti-wrinkle creams.

Collagen is the layer just beneath the skin's top layer. This layer is an insoluble fibrous protein. Knowing this, it makes good sense that it is a layer to be nurtured. Too much harmful sun, poor diet, and stressful and overindulgent life styles makes for the breakdown of the collagen layer. When the layer breaks down, the wrinkles occur. Wrinkles around the mouth occur in a smoker's face...around the eyes in someone who gets too little sleep or overindulges in drinking. Forehead wrinkles announce the exposure to sun. Fine lines, wrinkles and crow's feet are telltale signs.

Being careful during sun exposure means wearing a sunscreen with at least SPF 15 on any day especially if you are going out under he sun for more than 15 minutes. Strict rules and sticking to them help reduce the damage of the sun's rays. It is then important to remember the vitamin D supplement for your diet because you have eliminated the benefit of the sun as well as the damaging effects.

Eat a balance diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Include whole grains and don't forget to limit fats and sweets. Drinking enough water aids the body in its ability to process your food.

All that said, wrinkles still have a mind of their own. But help is available and need not be of the injection type of collagen or botox. Many good anti-wrinkle creams are on the market.

1. Let's start with a good sunscreen. Look for one that is SPF 15. Dermatologists recommend this, and they recommend reapplying as often as needed. Many sunscreens contain good moisturizers. Read the label and stick with well known brands. Apply an after sun moisturizer with aloe to keep your skin soft and nourished. Banana Boat offers a good one.

2. Antioxidants are good for more than your heart. Include some in your daily diet to help promote good skin health. Prevage cream which boasts of the ingredient known as idebenone and creams that include Q10 are also good sources of external treatment. The Prevage cream's super ingredient idebenone was developed as an alternative to botox treatment.

3. Retinoid is vitamin A which has been around as an popular, effective solution for wrinkles for at least two decades. These products are known as Retin-A, Differin and Renova. Careful use of these products is a must. Talk to your health care professional be that a dermatologist or your pharmacist.

As in any endeavor to improve your health, do your homework. Make sure that the solution is one that is good for you as well as comfortable for you to pursue. A sunscreen is only as good as you make it by using it every time you are in the sun for more than 15 minutes...summer and winter. The winter sun reflecting off the snow is as detrimental as the sun off the ocean's water. Cold air alone dries the skin so the moisturizer in the sunscreen helps also.

Found a good antioxidant or retinoid? Use it to see results. If you are young, start early in the care of your skin. It's never too late to treat yourself to a good diet and good daily habits.
